A wellness company aimed at educating, empowering and inspiring people to take charge of all aspects.

I started Better Beings in the late 90s, primarily providing 1:1 personal training services. This was a relatively new field, and I was advised that after a few months, I may have to get a "real Job." In the past 25 years, the business has evolved to include corporate wellness trainings, community based education, and various forms of lifestyle transformation challenges. I am proud to say I have t

I’ve been educating on skin cancer awareness for many years, but it lands differently since becoming part of the club.

It’s small but growing, and not one to strive to get in to. Receive a diagnosis of advanced stage melanoma and you’ll be welcomedšŸ˜‰

But I rather you don’t šŸ™Œ

Members come from all over the world and I’ve connected with a beautiful one in Australia. We Michelleā€˜s seem to find each other no matter where we livešŸ‘Æā€ā™€ļø

When it comes to skin cancer .melanoma is a powerful voice of awareness, acceptance and amelioration.

She asked me to be part of the melanoma diaries, sharing thoughts on my experience.

I’ve found most people know very little about skin cancer and even less about melanoma. Awareness is a good start but without action it’s not super useful 🫤

If you’re already in the club, say šŸ‘‹
We’ll be fine together🫶

If you’re not, I hope to never see you hereāœŒļø

With nearly 20 years of corporate wellness trainings under my belt, it’s incredible to be part of the evolution of worksite well-beingšŸ¤—

I’ve had the privilege of facilitating thousands of trainings, many hundreds of them on the topic of mental health. As we wrap up mental health awareness month, I wanted to share a few thoughts and observationsšŸ—Æļø

Year after year participation in these trainings continues to grow, with people attending for various reasons.

Whether it’s to

šŸ‘‰share their experiences that could help others
šŸ‘‰get guidance on how to support someone they are concerned about
šŸ‘‰seek understanding and appreciation for others’ struggles
šŸ‘‰find inspiration to tackle their own particular challenges

all are coming with open minds, open hearts and a willingness to be vulnerable🤲

That’s a big deal in any circumstance, but an especially big deal in the workplace.

This is made possible because organizations are allowing space for these conversations to take placešŸ‘

I am deeply grateful for those who reach out to me personally to facilitate trainings, as well my professional partnerships that afford me the opportunity to share ideas with people around the globe.

After every conversation, a belief I’ve held dear for a long time is further solidified …that we are all very much more alike than we are different.

I’m thankful for the experiences I’ve had that enable me to have a thoughtful approach to this topic and share perspective that can help others do so as well.

But the most impactful trainings are those where others show up and open up with their insights and insecurities. The value-add is immeasurable🌟

We are making significant strides in awareness, but the conversation can be tricky. When you are ready to embrace it, try my 4 C Approach:

šŸ‘‰Curiosity
šŸ‘‰Caution
šŸ‘‰Compassion
šŸ‘‰Confidence

Be intentional at building skills to support and enhance your own mental well-being so you can be better prepared to support and assist othersšŸ™Œ

Cheers to keeping the conversations going as we all strive to thrivešŸ‘Š

I hit up TruFusion a few weeks ago and so far this class with is my #1 fav🤩

I was looking for a straight up boxing—turns out those are hard to come by in my hood but this boxing circuit hit all the marksšŸŽÆ

The class was the perfect combination of body and brain work, challenging both my fitness and my focus, loving some parts and loathing othersšŸ’„

āž”ļøEffective
āž”ļøEfficient
āž”ļøEnergetic
āž”ļøExhausting

I have plenty of others to test out, but this one will absolutely be in regular rotation🤟

I’ve passed by Green Door Fitness hundreds of times so naturally it made my list of studios to visit.

I popped in last Saturday not quite sure what was in store but the enthusiastic greeting was a sign it would be an hour well spent.

And YES I was spent 🫠😁

I push myself in my own workouts but it’s just different when the trainer gets trained🤪

The format is a beautiful blend of personal attention in a small group setting performing super set circuits tailored to your needs and goals.

I appreciated the thoughtful approach from coach Adam as he designed my workout and the encouragement from as I was starting to fade.

GDF is a community gem…a door I will walk through again ✨

Funny how things show up in my feed just as I am talking about it🤨

I SEE YOU Fbook algorithm 😊

I’ve been having this convo a lot with friends and coaching clients for a very long time. Some of us didn’t need research to know the obvious but sure do love it when my message for the last 30 years gets scientific back up🄳

Millions of women have been doing the same gym programme for years and wondering why nothing is changing.

The reason is biological. According to 2026 research published across multiple sports science journals and reviewed by Medical Express in February 2026, muscles do not have the ability to "tone." They have two states: they grow, or they shrink. There is no third option.

The word toning, which has driven gym culture for women since the 1980s, describes an appearance, not a physiological process. What people see as a toned body is the result of two separate things: enough muscle mass to be visible, and low enough body fat for that muscle to show through.

But then the research went further. A 2026 dataset comparing women who trained with light weights at high repetitions against women who lifted heavier found that the heavy lifting group lost 2.3 times more fat over the same training period. They also built significantly more visible muscle definition.

The light weight group did not experience a toning effect. They experienced minimal fat loss and minimal muscle growth, the two things required to actually produce the look they were chasing.

The science behind this is straightforward. A 2026 retrospective cohort study involving 304 participants, conducted through a nutrition clinic affiliated with Tel Aviv University and published in PMC, found that resistance training produced the greatest fat loss outcomes of any form of exercise during a caloric deficit. It also preserved muscle at a higher rate than aerobic exercise alone.

The study concluded that not all weight loss is equal. Losing fat while keeping muscle produces a fundamentally different result to losing both. Heavy resistance training is the clearest way to achieve the first outcome.

The toning myth did not come from nowhere. It was actively promoted by the fitness industry to make gym culture feel less intimidating to women. But the gap between what was marketed and what the science shows has now become difficult to ignore.

What that gap has cost women in wasted time and effort is a question the research has not yet answered.
