Two Detroit museums are celebrating major anniversaries this weekend and both are marking the milestones with free community celebrations! 🎉🏛️⚓️

If you didn’t already know, Detroit is a hub of countless engaging world-class museums and cultural centers. This weekend, two longtime institutions are celebrating decades of preserving and sharing Detroit’s history.

🏛️ Detroit Historical Museum | 75th Anniversary
📅 Friday, July 24 | 10am-8pm

The Detroit Historical Museum opened its permanent home on Woodward Avenue on July 24, 1951. Today, the museum tells the stories of the people, places and industries that have shaped the city through exhibits including Origins: Life Where The River Bends, the Streets of Old Detroit, and more.

To celebrate 75 years, Detroit Historical Society is hosting a free block party with museum admission and guided tours, a classic car show, food trucks, music, DJs and karaoke, family activities, an ice cream social in the Streets of Old Detroit, a birthday toast and cake cutting and more. 🎂🚗🎶

⚓️ Dossin Great Lakes Museum | 65th Anniversary
📅 Saturday, July 25 | 10am-5pm

Located along the Detroit River on Belle Isle Conservancy, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum explores the maritime history of the Great Lakes and Detroit’s role in regional and national shipping. Highlights include the Miss Pepsi hydroplane, the Gothic Room from the City of Detroit III, the SS William Clay Ford pilot house and the bow anchor of the Edmund Fitzgerald. 🚢

The museum’s free Dock Party will feature guided museum tours, RC boats in the cove, live music from the Balduck Mountain Ramblers, family activities, food trucks, waterfront photo ops, ice cream and the chance to help paint the museum’s new mural. 🎨🚤🍦
