Sheet Pan Stuffed Avocado Seafood Boats

Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 12 minutes
Total time: 22 minutes
Servings: 4

🔥🔥🔥Ingredients:

The Handheld Boats & Seafood

4 ripe avocados, halved and pitted

1/2 lb large shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped

1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

2 tbsp cream cheese, softened

1 jalapeño, diced

1/2 tsp garlic powder

The Crunchy Slaw & Drip

2 cups shredded purple cabbage

1 tbsp fresh lime juice

Thick pale green avocado sauce

Fresh cilantro (for garnish)

🔥🔥🔥Instructions:

Prep the Filling: In a bowl, gently mix the chopped raw shrimp, shredded mozzarella, softened cream cheese, diced jalapeño, and garlic powder until it forms a rich, thick filling.

Stuff the Boats: Lay the avocado halves on a lined baking tray for an easy, low-friction sheet pan cleanup. Scoop the center slightly to make room, then heavily pack the cheesy shrimp filling into each avocado half.

Bake to Perfection: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roast the stuffed avocados for 10 to 12 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and the filling features beautifully cooked, juicy bright pink shrimp.

Make the Crunchy Slaw: Toss the shredded purple cabbage with lime juice to create that bright, vibrant crunch.

Assemble and Drip: Lay down a generous bed of the vibrant crunchy purple cabbage slaw. Top heavily with the hot, cheesy stuffed avocado boats. Flood every single bite and the crunchy slaw with a massive, heavy, scroll-stopping thick pale green avocado sauce drip! Serve immediately.

Yes, you've heard it all before, just a refresher about WHY that giant nuclear reactor in the sky (or your tanning bed) is truly a Frenemy.

The sun can damage both the surface epidermal layer of the skin which contains pigment cells, and the deeper dermal layer that contains blood vessels and the collagen that gives skin structural support. As a result the main skin changes that we see from sun damage are to the colour (pigmentation and redness), contour (lines and wrinkles) and texture (dryness and roughness) of the skin.

Other cells in the skin such as basal cells and squamous cells can also be affected by UV and if the DNA in these cells is damaged then skin cancers can develop, what are called BCC (Basal cell carcinoma) or SCC (Squamous cell carcinoma). When the DNA of the pigment producing cells (melanocytes) is damaged the potentially very dangerous Melanoma can develop.

SUN EXPOSURE CAUSES ELASTIN DESTRUCTION (solar elastosis) by UV radiation, which breaks down skin fibers and causes collagen to lose structural support, leading to premature sagging and deep wrinkles. Those lovely cross-hatched wrinkles? Yes. Sun exposure. Chronic exposure causes damaged, thickened, yellowed skin in areas like the face, neck, and arms. Preventive measures include daily SPF 30+ sunscreen, protective clothing, and avoiding peak sun hours.

Key Aspects of Elastin Destruction from Sun Exposure:

Mechanism (Solar Elastosis): UV rays, particularly UV-A, break down the structural, elastic fibers in the skin, causing them to accumulate abnormally, resulting in a yellowed, thickened, and leather-like appearance.

Physical Effects: The breakdown of elastin causes skin to lose its elasticity, leading to sagging, deep wrinkles, and coarse, leathery textures.

Molecular Damage: UV light destroys elastin and reduces necessary cross-links, often causing a twofold to sixfold increase in disorganized, non-functional elastin fibers, which paradoxically accelerates aging.

Impacted Areas: Solar elastosis is primarily observed on areas with the highest sun exposure: the face, neck, and arms.

Prevention and Treatment Options:

Prevention: The most effective defense is daily use of broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+), seeking shade, and wearing protective clothing.

Treatment: While elastin loss will not reverse and damaged fibers are hard to reverse, options to improve skin appearance include retinoids, laser skin resurfacing, photo facials, series of chemical peels, microneedling, and daily antioxidants like Vitamin C Serum.

Avoid Sun Exposure! Is it best to get your vitamin D from the sun? Definitely not!!!
—David J. Leffell, MD, Yale Medicine dermatologist and chief of Dermatologic Surgery:

"One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced in dermatology and in the world of skin cancer prevention has been a lot of misinformation about vitamin D metabolism.

There are claims that one needs to get a certain amount of sun exposure every day in order to produce enough vitamin D to be healthy. It’s just not true. The majority of people can get their vitamin D from nutritional supplements and from vitamin D-fortified foods.

There are some people (who are typically not dermatologists or experts in the biology of skin cancer) who have advocated for tanning to get vitamin D. But we know that UVB light causes skin cancer and that protecting yourself against it makes sense. As a doctor who treats patients who have melanomas, I want the general public to be advised that under no circumstances can the use of a tanning bed or tanning in general be justified on the basis of vitamin D. Take a supplement instead."

Be disciplined, smart and deliberate about minimizing direct sun exposure whenever possible.

Sunscreen, Sunscreen and more Sunscreen
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. Applied religiously on a daily basis.

Use at least SPF 40 that is “broad spectrum” (blocks UVA & UVB), and when playing outdoors apply it before you leave your home and again at high noon.

*****Note: All sunscreens lose their protective potency in 4-5 hours.

Wear a Hat
Wear a hat with as wide a brim as you can tolerate, as well as long sleeves and long pants if sensible.

Moisturize and Hydrate
Keep your skin well moisturized and hydrated. Did I mention sunscreen?

UVA and UVB are both harmful types of ultraviolet radiation from the sun, but they differ in wavelength and skin pe*******on.

UVA (long wave) pe*****tes deeply, causing premature aging (wrinkles, spots). UVB (short wave) causes sunburn and is the main cause of skin cancer. Both require broad-spectrum protection.

UVA (Ultraviolet A - "Aging")
Pe*******on: Deep, into the dermis.
Effects: Causes long-term damage like photoaging (wrinkles, leathery skin) and contributes to skin cancer.
Presence: Constant throughout the year, even on cloudy days, and pe*****tes glass.
Intensity: 95% of UV radiation reaching Earth is UVA.

UVB (Ultraviolet B - "Burning")
Pe*******on: Shallow, affects the epidermis.
Effects: Causes immediate damage like sunburns, tanning, and mutations leading to skin cancer.
Presence: Varies by season and time (strongest 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), and cannot pe*****te glass.
Intensity: 5-10% of UV radiation reaching Earth is UVB.

Key Comparison Summary
Memory Aid: UVA = Aging, UVB = Burning.

Protection: Always use a "broad-spectrum" sunscreen with SPF 30+, as it covers both UVA and UVB.
Damage: Both types of rays contribute to skin cancer, although they attack the skin differently.
