On October 24, Muumuus x Mahjong returns to Folklore Spa for a full day of tiles, tea, friendly competition, and time spent well away from the everyday.

Settle in for two instructor-led group Mahjong classes, make your way back to the table for open play, then trade the tiles for an Asian-inspired high tea lunch, a 60-minute massage, and time to enjoy the spa at your own pace.

We’re honored to share that Folklore Spa received First Place in the Commercial Retail category at the 2026 ASID Celebrating Design Texas Awards.

From expressive patterns and collected artwork to tactile materials, organic forms and architectural curiosities, every detail of Folklore carries a piece of the story. Layered together, they create a sanctuary that feels warm, worldly and wonderfully unexpected.

Some stories are carried across generations. Others, across oceans.

Folklore itself began as a former Vietnamese town hall, and traces of that history still live within its walls, from the architecture to the collected objects tucked throughout the space.

Among them, the phoenix and turtle tell a story of two worlds. In Vietnamese tradition, the phoenix belongs to the heavens, a symbol of beauty and strength, while the turtle remains rooted to the earth, representing wisdom, endurance and longevity.

Together, they become a meeting place between sky and soil, myth and mortal life, the celestial resting gently upon the earthly.

A fitting story for Folklore, where history, symbolism and faraway tales rest themselves in the Texas Hill Country.
