Do I have way too many WIPs going? Yes, yes I do. So naturally I jumped at any and every opportunity to put them to the side and do something different 😜. Most of these blocks were made for sewing bees (I’m currently in a RSS bee as well as a local bee) . The birds were just for fun (turns out doing a teeny tiny bird is hard - it’s the one I’m least happy with). These were fun because, while I had measurements I could work with, 2 of the 3 birds was me just winging it 😉
Today I’m bound and determined to finish piecing quilt I want to finish in its entirety by October 31. We’ll see 🤞

Felt guilty about finishing the lime-green medallion first, so felt compelled to finish the orange one (since I started first that one first). I can see *all* the imperfections now, but I’m hoping by the time this whole thing is done (years from now) I’ll forget where to look 😅

Finally finished yellow-green medallion. 💛💚💛💚💛💚
Considering this is my first real EPP (English paper piecing) project, I’m really happy with how it came out.
I’m surprised how much I enjoy EPP - it’s *very* different from machine piecing. I love that it’s super portable and also really easy to pick up and put down. While the actual quilt in its entirety seems like a Sisyphean task, the ability to break it up into more “bite sized” chunks like the medallions makes it feel much more approachable. I’ve been switching back and forth between my orange and yellow-green medallions (flip flopping between the 2 based on my mood that day) - turns out I finished yellow-green first (even though I started the orange one first).
Anyhow, once medallion done, a million more to go 😅

First time attempting a “Lone Star” block - a block that is largely constructed with fabric cut into diamonds cut at 45 degree angles. It was my first time working with diamonds and the offset that needs to be done when nesting them as well as dealing with fabric cut on the bias… 🤯. In terms of shapes used frequently in traditional quilt blocks, give me a square, a rectangle, a triangle, “snowball”, or a quarter or half circle any day. Me and diamonds have yet to become friends 😒

She 100% judges my points and disapproves when I sew over pins…

New project in the works, mission is: get better at/more comfortable with FPP. While I’m still at the place where I have to think overly hard about how to about how to orient the fabric so that when I flip it, it lies correctly. Also miserable at estimating how much fabric I’ll need to do a block. Still, Amanda FPP star blocks are cute enough that I’m hopeful I’ll stick with this, even though I’m in the weeds of learning right now 😅

Working on piecing together the blue strips on my mom’s quilt - Sadie is helping obviously 😆🙄

Had so much fun making a little house for Triangle MQG’s August block lottery that I wound up making 5 😅. Did I have other stuff to do? Yes. Did I decide it was more important to find fabric in my stash that had illustrations that would fit in a 1.5” by 2.5” rectangle? Also yes 😆

Finally finished the late 80s, early 90s Lisa Frank-inspired baby quilt of my inner kid’s dreams 💜🦄🌈
Unicorn mane fabric is all from “Fizz” by Giucy Giuce, the unicorn horns are from “speckled” and the black background and binding is “starry”, both from Ruby Star, and the sashing and backing fabric is from Tula Pink’s recent coral reef collection.
