The internet has decided everyone should wash their hair less. That is good advice for some people and genuinely bad advice for others.
Here is how to find your actual number.
Fine hair and oily scalps often need more frequent washing, not less. Oil travels down fine hair fast and weighs it down, and letting it sit on the scalp for days is not doing your scalp any favors.
Thick, coarse, or curly hair usually needs less frequent washing because oil takes longer to travel and the hair needs that moisture.
Color-treated and lightened hair benefits from fewer washes because every wash takes a little tone with it. This is the one place where washing less genuinely protects your investment.
If you work out daily, sweat sitting on your scalp is a scalp health issue. Rinse and condition even on non-shampoo days.
And this is the part people miss: what you wash with matters more than how often. A gentle, sulfate-conscious, color-safe shampoo used four times a week can be kinder than a harsh clarifying one used twice.
Your number is whatever keeps your scalp comfortable and your hair looking like itself. Start there and adjust.

Three words that get swapped around constantly, and knowing the difference will save you money.
A gloss adds shine and a small amount of tone. It sits on the surface and it makes hair look like it just caught the light. It does not lighten and it does not cover gray. Think of it as a topcoat.
A toner cancels unwanted tone. If your blonde is too yellow or your brunette is too orange, a toner neutralizes it. It also deposits and it also fades. Same family as a gloss, different job.
Color changes the hair itself. It lifts, deposits, covers gray, and grows out with a line. It is a commitment.
If you are not sure which one you need, that is what the consultation is for.

You left the salon with the exact tone you wanted. Three weeks later it’s warm, yellow, and not what you paid for. Here is what actually happened.
Toner is a deposit, not a permanent change. It sits on the outside of the hair and it rinses away a little bit with every wash. That is normal and it is not a mistake.
But four things speed it up, and most of them are happening in your house, not in my chair.
Water is usually the biggest one. If you have hard water, the minerals in it deposit onto your hair and pull it warm and dull. It is the same reason your shower door gets spotty.
Heat opens the cuticle and lets tone escape faster. Sun does the same thing, and it does it year round, not only on the hot days.
And a lot of clarifying or volumizing shampoos are stripping tone out faster than your toner can hold on.
The fix is not more toner. The fix is protecting what you already paid for.

Some of you know me from behind the chair. Others know me as the woman behind Radiant Rise Creative. So, here is a little more about me. 👋🏽
I am Renee: hair artist, marketing director, Navy veteran, Radiant Rise founder, and Morrisville boy mom ×3.
Most days, I am bouncing between hair formulas, content calendars, AI tools, and entirely too many browser tabs. My own hair and makeup? A true 50/50 situation. 😂
Inside my camera roll: client hair, Radiant Rise selfies, and the rare photo of my grown boys that I instantly cherish.
Whether you are here for the hair, the marketing, the AI, or a little bit of everything, I am glad you are here.
Now tell me one fun or unexpected thing about you. 💛

Fusiodose works with any service. Color day. Cut day. A standalone treatment if that is what you want. The only thing you have to do is mention it when you book or when you sit down. I will handle the rest.

The biggest shift in color for summer 2026 is not a shade. It is a philosophy. Clients are asking for colors that feel like they grew that way. Soft dimension, lived-in roots, a finished result that looks effortless because it was designed to.

Getting glass hair in the salon is the easy part. Keeping it at home is the question. Acid-based conditioner to smooth, lightweight oil to seal, no towel rubbing, cold water to close the cuticle. That is the routine.

Gloss Absolu is the Kerastase product I reach for when a client wants that reflective, glass-like finish. It seals the cuticle flat. Flat cuticle means light bounces off evenly. That is the whole science behind serious shine.
