Your hair starts thinning, and suddenly every “hair growth” supplement on your feed starts looking tempting.
But before adding another bottle to your routine, I’d want to understand what’s actually contributing to the hair loss.
Is your ferritin or iron low? How is your thyroid functioning? What does vitamin D look like? Are hormonal changes playing a role? Are you getting enough protein and overall nutrition?
These things matter because hair loss can have more than one driver. And two women noticing the same thinning around their part may need very different support.
A supplement might eventually be part of the plan. Minoxidil might be part of the plan. Hormone or nutrition support might be part of the plan.
What belongs in your plan depends on what we find.
If your brush, shower drain or ponytail has been telling you something has changed lately, bring it up at your next visit. Hair loss is worth investigating.

Your ponytail feels smaller than it used to.
There’s more hair in the shower drain. Your part looks a little wider in photos. And now you’re paying attention every time you run your hands through your hair.
In midlife, it’s easy to assume hormones are the answer.
They can be part of the picture. But they’re not the only thing we want to look at.
When a patient comes to me with hair loss, I want to understand why it’s happening.
That can mean looking at thyroid function, ferritin and iron, vitamin D, nutrition, hormone levels and whether there may be an androgenic component to the shedding.
Because two women can walk in with what looks like the same hair loss and have very different things contributing to it.
And then there’s minoxidil.
I like Minoxidil, which is is a medication used to help stimulate hair growth and is one of the treatment options we may discuss when it makes sense for the patient. We use oral more than topical in my practice.
Yes, minoxidil is still the GOAT.
But I don’t want to hand you a hair-growth recommendation and ignore the reason your hair started changing in the first place.
Hair loss deserves a workup, not a guess.
If you’ve noticed more shedding, a widening part or your ponytail getting noticeably thinner, bring it up at your next visit. Those changes are worth looking into.

You don’t wake up one morning and suddenly have less collagen.
The changes are quieter than that.
Fine lines start hanging around a little longer. Your skin doesn’t look quite as smooth in certain lighting. Texture becomes something you notice more than you used to.
That’s part of why collagen matters so much in the midlife skin conversation.
SkinPen microneedling creates controlled microchannels that trigger your skin’s natural wound-healing response and stimulate new collagen.
And that word stimulate matters.
We’re not covering up what you’re seeing or expecting your skin to change overnight. We’re supporting a process your skin already knows how to do.
SkinPen can be used to improve the appearance of fine lines, texture, acne scars and overall skin quality over time.
But we don’t start with, “You need microneedling.”
We start with your skin.
What are you noticing? What do you want to change? And which treatment actually makes sense for getting you there?
If SkinPen has been on your radar, book a complimentary skin consultation with our esthetician and we’ll start there.

You’ve stared at that same spot in the mirror enough times to know your skincare isn’t making it budge.
Maybe it got darker after summer. Maybe your skin tone looks less even than it used to. Or there’s texture you keep noticing every time the light hits your face.
Stephanie had some of those same things she wanted to work on with her own skin, so she decided to try a VI Peel.
And she documented the whole thing.
Not just the pretty after photo.
The peeling. The in-between days. The part you actually want to know about before deciding if you’d ever do one yourself.
VI Peel is a more corrective treatment that can target concerns like discoloration, sun damage, uneven tone and texture.
And yes, there can be some very visible peeling afterward.
Because the result matters. But so does knowing what you’re signing up for.
If you’ve been looking at your own skin wondering what would actually make a difference, book a complimentary skin consultation with our esthetician.
We’ll take a look at what you’re seeing and help you decide what makes sense for your skin.

You’ve zoomed in on that same dark spot in the mirror enough times to know you want to do something about it.
You’ve looked at facials. You’ve Googled VI Peel. And now you’re trying to figure out which one would actually address what you keep noticing in the mirror.
That’s where the difference matters.
If your skin mostly needs hydration and a refresh, a facial may be a great place to start.
But if you’re looking at discoloration, sun damage, uneven tone or texture and thinking, “I want to actually work on this,” we may talk about a more corrective treatment like VI Peel.
The treatment you came in asking for isn’t always the treatment your skin needs.
At Vital Skin, we look at your skin, what’s bothering you and what you actually want to change before deciding what makes sense.
Not sure if VI Peel is right for your skin? Book a complimentary skin consultation with our esthetician.

Your makeup is catching on dry patches that weren’t there a few months ago.
Your moisturizer disappears and your skin still feels dry. Fine lines are suddenly harder not to notice.
And you haven’t really changed what you’re doing.
Summer can certainly take a toll on your skin, but in your 40s, there may be more to the story.
Hormonal changes during perimenopause and midlife can affect hydration, collagen and the way your skin looks and feels.
Sometimes you don’t need to overhaul everything. You just need a good place to start.
Our Pumpkin Enzyme Facial can be a good place to start when your skin is asking for some extra attention after summer. And for once, you get to lie back and let someone else take care of you.
Not sure if a facial is what your skin actually needs? That’s what we can help you figure out.

The thing that convinces some women it can’t be perimenopause?
Their period is still showing up every month.
Meanwhile, they’re awake at 3am. PMS suddenly hits harder. Anxiety shows up when it never used to be a problem. Their body composition or weight feels harder to manage despite doing the same things. Stress feels harder to shake.
Perimenopause can begin years before periods become irregular, sometimes as early as your mid-30s.
So if you’ve caught yourself saying, “I don’t know what’s going on. I just feel different lately,” it’s worth paying attention to.
What was the first change you noticed?

You can be in perimenopause while your period is still showing up right on schedule.
That’s part of why the early signs can be so easy to miss.
Maybe you’re lying awake at 2am when you used to sleep through the night. You’re snapping at things that never used to bother you. The week before your period suddenly feels harder. Your anxiety feels different. Your periods are heavier, even though they’re still regular.
And you keep wondering why you don’t quite feel like yourself.
Perimenopause can begin as early as your mid-30s, years before periods become irregular.
You don’t need to wait for a missed period or a hot flash to start connecting the dots.
September is Perimenopause Awareness Month, and I want more women to know that the subtle changes count too.
If you’ve been wondering whether what you’re experiencing could be perimenopause, that’s a conversation worth having.
