OHSU, in collaboration with IMPACT Melanoma, has found that these providers often see your body and skin on a much more regular (and thorough) basis than just about anyone else, and can be helpful in encouraging you to see your doctor when something on your skin looks out of the ordinary.

While nothing is a replacement for a visit to the doctor or dermatologist, part of our role as a provider in caring for you is making prudent recommendations for higher-level care when it seems like something is off.

That’s not a role we take lightly. It’s one more reason regular sessions matter: the more familiar we are with your skin, body, and nails, the more likely we are to notice if something changes.

‘Tis the season for exfoliation.

As the summer sun winds down, it’s a good time to start thinking of fall skin renewal.

Exfoliation isn’t a one and done thing. Whether through chemical agents such as AHAs, BHAs, and retinoids or through physical means such as microdermabrasion, an immediately improved complexion is only half of the story.

Careful and appropriate exfoliation also forces our skin to ramp up cell turnover to repair. This can absolutely be overdone, so it’s important to go slowly and/or consult a skincare professional or dermatologist.

Our most heavily exfoliating services such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels really only reach their full potential when done in a series. While one visit can certainly improve the look of your skin, the results are quite temporary when compared to a series of 4-6 sessions, where results are much more noticeable and longer lasting, especially for pernicious skin concerns.
