Did you know that if you leave your hot tub empty for the summer, it's not really empty? Give that tub an extra rinse with your drain port open and add a little extra sanitizer when you're ready to fill to kill off that bacteria that's been hanging out at the lowest point in your plumbing.

It's a great protocol for summer since you should only do it once a week to get the maximum benefit and avoid heat adaptation lowering your results.

This time of year a lot of folks stop using their tubs for a month or two... People ask us if they can be used as a cold plunge.

Here's what we say:
Sorta:)

- Many hot tubs can be turned down to 60 degrees and will not be trying to actively heat unless the water is less than that
- Hot tubs don't have a chiller
- Hot tubs are well insulated and hold heat naturally
- When hot tubs filter, the water temperature heats up somewhat

Put simply, you can often use your hot tub as a "cool tub" in the summer but it likely won't stay COLD for a long time.

P.S. If you're going to use your hot tub as a "cool tub" this summer, make sure to ask us about what sanitizer to use. Many hot tub-specific sanitizers need hot water to function properly.
