I started making these Blueberry Oat Bars about a month ago after going through a bout of digestive issues. After getting knocked down with some pretty severe symptoms, I knew some things had to change.
I had a general idea of what was going on, but I decided to simplify everything. I dropped most of the supplements I was taking, did a short 24-hour fast, and then ate a simple congee-based diet for about 10 days.
Toward the end of that time, I started thinking about what I could make as a simple, nourishing snack, and these Blueberry Oat Bars were born.
They’re made with simple ingredients, have a good amount of protein, and are really easy to play around with. You can swap out the blueberries for other fruits, add nuts or seeds, experiment with powdered herbs and spices, or even try barley flakes or another type of grain flake.
These became a regular part of my diet as I was getting my digestion back on track, and they taste amazing.
There’s also something deeply satisfying about making your own snacks and knowing exactly what goes into them. At this point in my life, I prefer cooking most of my own food and supporting local growers and food producers whenever I can. My body seems to appreciate the simplicity, and I can really dial things in to what works for me.
Food is part of our daily rhythm, and what we eat each day matters. It can be easy to fall into the mindset of, “There’s a supplement for that.” Supplements certainly have their place, but they don’t replace nourishing, whole foods and good digestion.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, it’s also a reminder to tend to our agni, our digestive fire, eat in a way that works for our individual constitution, and not overload the digestive system.
I hope you enjoy these as much as I have.

October Newsletter | Autumn Musings, Herbs & Tea
Fall has officially arrived here in the Pacific Northwest, bringing cool, damp mornings, changing leaves, and the abundance of the autumn harvest.
This is one of my favorite times of year as an herbalist and forager. Roots, barks, berries, and mushrooms are calling us into the forests, while the cooler weather invites us to slow down, turn inward, and nourish ourselves for the months ahead.
In this month's newsletter, I'm sharing:
Herb of the Month: Hawthorn and its special relationship with the heart, along with some of my favorite ways to enjoy these beautiful red berries.
Tea of the Month: 2017 Aged Heavy Charcoal Roasted D**g Ding Oolong, a deeply warming tea from a seventh-generation tea family in Taiwan.
Our Hawthorn Berry Syrup recipe.
Updates on my Ayurvedic Wellness consultations, now available in person or via Zoom.
Upcoming classes and workshops.
A little about my upcoming tea-hunting adventure in Taiwan!
I hope this month's offerings inspire you to get outside, gather some of autumn's abundance, brew a nourishing cup of tea, and enjoy the beauty of the changing season.

Tea of the day-
2017 Heavy charcoal roasted D**g Ding Oolong
This D**g Ding comes from a 7th generation tea family who works exclusively with D**g Ding tea, carefully producing and storing their harvests year after year. This lot is from 2017 and has been traditionally re-roasted over time using longan wood charcoal to maintain and deepen its character.
Spending time with this family is something special! We are always able to taste many years of the same tea, grown on the same mountain, from the same gardens, and processed in the same traditional way. What stands out is how different each year becomes with time. Aging and careful re-roasting shape the tea in ways that reveal depth, warmth, and individuality that can’t be rushed.
The longan charcoal roasting gives this tea a rich, warming profile with notes of fruit, earth, and gentle sweetness that evolve through multiple infusions. It has a strong, lively energy and a full presence in the body.
For brewing, use boiling water and pour immediately, keeping the kettle close to your teapot or gaiwan. This style of D**g Ding responds best to high heat, which helps the leaves fully open and express their depth.
This tea truly shines when prepared in a gaiwan or small clay pot. I like to fill the gaiwan generously with leaves by feel, though 2–3 grams in a small to medium-sized gaiwan is a great place to start. With D**g Ding teas I was taught to use boiling water, and steep the first infusion for about 45 seconds. Increase each subsequent infusion by 20–30 seconds, and you'll be rewarded with five or more flavorful steepings, each revealing a little more of the tea's character.
We are offering a sale to raise money to buy more tea when I head back to Taiwan in November.
You can find this tea along with a couple other D**g Ding teas as well as our other teas on our website under Bahji Tea

Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, has been one of the most treasured plants within the Ayurvedic tradition for thousands of years.
Ayurveda regards Tulsi as a rasayana, a rejuvenative herb traditionally used to support vitality, resilience, and overall wellbeing. It is also considered a deeply sattvic plant, associated with clarity, spiritual awareness, and inner balance.
Beyond its use as an herb, Tulsi holds a beautiful place within Hindu spiritual traditions, where it has long been grown around homes and temples as a sacred plant associated with purification, protection, and devotion.
At Ojas Naturals, we work with three different varieties of Tulsi, each with its own unique aroma, flavor, and personality:
Kapoor Tulsi is wonderfully aromatic, with fruity, slightly licorice-like notes and a warming nature.
Krishna Tulsi has a deeper, spicier character and beautiful purple-tinged leaves and stems.
Vana Tulsi is more wild and earthy, with a bright, aromatic quality all its own.
We make each variety separately into our Herbal Honey Extracts so you can experience the different expressions of this beautiful plant for yourself.
