Let's dive into melasma!
Why does one person's melasma fade more easily, while another's barely shifts?

It often comes down to where the stubborn pigmentation is living in the layers of the skin — and what's happening around it!

Let's break it down:

EPIDERMAL
Surface-level pigmentation. Often more brown with more defined borders. Because it's closer to the surface, it typically responds more readily to consistent care. This does NOT mean you can physically scrub it away.

DERMAL
Deeper pigmentation. Can look more grey-brown or blue-grey with softer borders. Sits deeper in the dermis, so it takes more time and patience.

VASCULAR
The piece most people miss. Melasma-prone skin can show more visible vessel activity and extra communication between vessels and pigment cells. That's why it's about more than just the brown we see.

MIXED
Both surface + deeper — and overlapping features. This is actually the most common type.

What this means for your home routine:
