Did you know that tilting your head forward just 45 to 60 degrees to look at your phone puts up to 60 pounds of pressure on your cervical spine? 🤯 Over time, this posture-- commonly known as "Text Neck" can lead to chronic neck stiffness, shoulder tension, upper back aches, and even tension headaches.

The good news? A few intentional habits can protect your spine! In this video, Dr. Burt shows that lifting your phone closer to eye level rather than dropping your chin is important. Supporting your arm, whether it is with your other arm or with a pillow to take stress off your shoulders and upper back is also key. Lastly, taking breaks every 15-20 minutes to pause, tuck your chin gently, and look up to give your neck muscles a rest is key!

Small adjustments throughout the day make a big difference for your long-term spinal health!

Have questions about your posture or daily setup? Drop a comment below or contact our office at (253) 927-0660. Our team is here to help you feel and move your best and Dr. Burt is currently accepting new patients!

🌱 Condition of the Week: Wrist Pain/Carpal Tunnel Syndrome 🖐️

Does back to school have your wrists hurting more than usual from all the computer work? If your hands feel numb, tingly, or weak — especially after typing, gripping, or repetitive tasks — it could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. This condition happens when the median nerve gets compressed at the wrist, often due to posture, inflammation, or overuse. It is very common in desk workers, stylists/barbers, mechanics and tradespeople, chefs and food prep workers, and artists and crafters.

Signs to watch for:
• Tingling in the thumb, index, or middle fingers
• Wrist pain that flares with activity
• Hand fatigue or clumsiness
• Grip weakness or nighttime discomfort

To alleviate wrist pain, we recommend incorporating exercises and stretches into your daily routine. Here are some stretches that we would recommend, starting with 10 repetitions and gradually increasing to 2-3 sets, holding each stretch for 10-15 seconds and the towel squeeze for 3 seconds.

If the pain persists, our providers at Northwest Wellness use gentle wrist adjustments, soft tissue therapy, cold laser therapy, SoftWave therapy, and ergonomic coaching to reduce nerve pressure and restore function. We’ll help you get back to work, hobbies, and daily life — without the hand pain. Call (253) 927-0660 to schedule your appointment today!

🌿 Condition of the Week: Early Fall Immune Support 🍂

As the weather shifts and kids are back in school, we're already seeing the first wave of seasonal bugs-- especially stomach-related illnesses and early cold symptoms. This is a great time to give your immune system a little extra support.

A large portion of the immune system lives in the gut, which means digestive stress, dehydration, poor sleep, or exposure to seasonal viruses can make the body less efficient at fighting off illnesses. When a few people around you are out sick, it's a reminder to check in with your own immune resilience.

Simple ways to support your immune system this week:
-Prioritize whole foods and hydration
-Add fiber-rich foods to support gut health
-Get consistent sleep (even 30 extra minutes helps!)
-Wash hands frequently, especially after school pickups
-Listen to your body and slow down when you need to

How Northwest Wellness can help:
-Naturopathic care supports immune balance through nutrition, hydration, and targeted supplements
-Acupuncture helps regulate digestion, reduce inflammation, and support immune signaling
-Massage Therapy calms the nervous system, which plays a major role in immune strength
-Chiropractic care supports the nervous system and helps the body respond more effectively to stressors

Your immune system works hard for you every day and a little support goes a long way during early cold season. If you're feeling run down or want personalized guidance, our team is here to help! Call (253) 927-0660 to schedule your appointment today!

A 2023 randomized controlled trial published in Frontiers in Medicine found that platelet‑rich plasma (PRP) may help reduce inflammatory cytokines inside the joint — including TNF‑α, IL‑1β, and IL‑6 — while also improving pain and function over 12 months.

In other words:
OA pain isn’t only about cartilage. It’s also about inflammation — and changing that environment may change how you feel.

At Northwest Wellness, we use regenerative tools like PRP and SoftWave Therapy to help support tissue healing, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility for patients living with knee pain.

Your recovery is our priority, call our office at (253) 927-0660 to schedule an appointment.
