This month, the FIRST Shoals Hair Co. salon turns 5 years old.

Five years of trusting a vision that didn’t always make sense to everyone watching.

What started as an idea for an inclusive salon designed specifically for independent beauty professionals to actually be independent turned into something much bigger than we ever planned. A space where stylists could build their own business, make their own decisions, and create careers on their terms without outdated rules, without ceilings, and without someone else controlling their success.

That idea turned into multiple locations, full books, long-standing teams, a full academy system, hundreds of students, and a reputation that speaks for itself.

But here’s what really matters... our ENTIRE original team is still here.

In an industry known for turnover, constant movement, and people constantly chasing the next better thing, that doesn’t happen.

It wasn’t luck. It was intentional.

We built something different. A culture people don’t want to leave. A standard people are proud to be part of. A place where independence actually means something, not just a word but a real business model.

We built a system that lets professionals truly own what they do. We built a home for independent careers to grow and last. We built something that holds up over time, not something that looks good for a moment.
