The City of Foley has begun post-storm recovery operations following Hurricane Isaias.
Preliminary assessments conducted by City crews overnight indicate that Foley avoided the widespread damage experienced during previous major hurricanes. However, several areas sustained damage, including downed trees, power outages and debris along roadways.
DOWNED TREES AND DAMAGE: City crews identified significant tree damage in the area between Myrtle Avenue and Highway 98, from Alston Street to Cedar Street. Additional downed trees were observed in the northwestern portion of the city and at Graham Creek.
โก POWER OUTAGES: Riviera Utilities and Baldwin EMC have mobilized to continue restoration efforts this morning. Residents should stay away from downed power lines and avoid approaching trees or debris that may be in contact with electrical equipment.
ROAD CLEARING: City crews and contracted crews worked overnight to remove fallen trees and clear roadways where conditions allowed. Additional assessments and clearing operations are underway today. Motorists should remain cautious and avoid areas where crews are working.
FLOODING: Initial assessments have not identified significant flooding issues within the city. City crews will continue monitoring conditions.
City crews began additional damage assessments early this morning to identify priority areas for debris removal and roadway clearing. These assessments will help guide recovery operations throughout the day.
While initial reports are encouraging, the full extent of damage is not yet known. Some areas were surveyed after dark, and additional damage may be identified during daylight inspections.
The City of Foley appreciates the dedication of our City crews, emergency responders, utility crews and contractors who have worked throughout the storm and into the recovery period.
We will continue providing updates as additional information becomes available.

Hurricane Isaias has strengthened into a major Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph. The City of Foley is urging residents to complete all remaining storm preparations immediately and be in a safe location before conditions deteriorate later today.
According to the latest information from the National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola, Isaias is moving north-northeast toward the Gulf Coast and is expected to make landfall between coastal Alabama and northwest Florida tonight.
Although the storm is expected to weaken before landfall, it is still forecast to be a significant hurricane capable of causing widespread damage, dangerous flooding and extended power outages.
Of particular concern for Foley is a new warning from the National Weather Service about the potential for significantly stronger winds on the western side of the hurricane. Forecasters are increasingly concerned that Mobile and Baldwin counties could experience more severe wind conditions than previously anticipated this evening and overnight.
A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for Baldwin County. Residents should not assume they are outside the danger area based on the storm's projected path.
Tropical-storm-force winds could begin along the coast as early as noon today, with conditions expected to deteriorate across the region throughout the afternoon and evening.
Residents should complete final preparations this morning. Once strong winds begin, travel may become dangerous and emergency response could be limited.
The National Weather Service is warning of an increased potential for significantly stronger winds across Baldwin and Mobile counties tonight, particularly on the western side of the hurricane. Hurricane-force winds are possible in parts of Baldwin County, and damaging winds could extend well away from the storm's center. These winds could cause significant roof damage, uproot large trees, bring down power lines, block roadways and lead to widespread power and communication outages. Mobile homes and other vulnerable structures are at particular risk.
8 inches are forecast across much of the region, with isolated amounts of up to 12 inches possible, particularly in the western Florida Panhandle. The heaviest rainfall is expected this afternoon and tonight. Following last weekend's significant rainfall, already saturated ground increases the risk of dangerous flash flooding. Residents should prepare for rapidly rising water, flooded streets and underpasses, overflowing drainage systems and possible flooding of homes and businesses in low-lying areas. A Flood Watch is in effect through Saturday afternoon.
Heavy rainfall is expected to cause rising water levels in area rivers and creeks. River flooding is possible across Baldwin County, depending on where the heaviest rainfall occurs. Residents near waterways and in flood-prone areas should closely monitor conditions and relocate to safer ground before flooding begins.
Tornadoes are also possible within rain bands associated with Isaias. Residents should have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and know where they will shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued.

Additional information regarding upcoming collection schedules will be provided as conditions allow.
Travel conditions are expected to become increasingly dangerous as early as noon today. Never drive through flooded roads or around barricades. Residents should remain off roadways once dangerous weather begins to allow emergency personnel and utility crews to operate safely.
Do not travel around to watch the storm or observe worsening conditions.
Every household should be prepared to care for itself for at least 72 hours following the storm.
Following a significant hurricane, emergency personnel and City crews will prioritize life-threatening emergencies, clearing major roadways and restoring access to critical services. It may take time before crews can safely reach every neighborhood.
Residents should make sure they have:
- At least three days of drinking water, nonperishable food and necessary medications.
- Charged cellphones, portable chargers and flashlights.
- Battery-powered weather radios and extra batteries.
- Essential supplies for children, older adults and pets.
- A safe place inside their home to shelter away from windows.
- A plan for possible extended power and communication outages.

Hurricane Isaias continues to strengthen in the Gulf, with significant impacts expected across coastal Alabama from Friday into Saturday. Residents are strongly encouraged to complete storm preparations today.
According to the National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola's 5:30 a.m. briefing, Isaias could approach major hurricane strength while over the central Gulf before making landfall somewhere along the northern Gulf Coast Friday night or early Saturday morning.
While the exact track remains uncertain, damaging winds, heavy rainfall, flash flooding and tornadoes are becoming increasingly likely across our area.
