SCAM ALERT!!!!
I’ve gotten these scam warnings a couple times already. Here is how you can tell they’re fake.
This one has some key characteristics of a classic phishing scam.
1) it tries to get me to move quickly by scaring me with a consequence. Phishing scams offer either a reward (you have been selected for a prize!!), or a consequence (my page will be shut down) and you MUST ACT NOW. This fraudster gave me 24 hours to try and get me to bypass thinking and jump right into doing.
2) it urges me to click a link in order to make the problem go away. In reality, it will either take me to a fraudster’s website that will ask for my passwords/information or could corrupt my device.
3) they are impersonating an authority figure to gain my trust. This fraudster is pretending to be Meta Services.
4) it comes from a sketchy source. Many phishing scams come through email, but this one came from my reviews. While they did give me 5 stars, these reviews are open to the public, so anyone could have written it.
Stay safe out there, and ALWAYS stop and think before clicking anything!
