'DON'T TRY TO BE SUPERMAN': Bitterly cold temperatures have hit central Kentucky, and they aren't leaving the area anytime soon.

🚨 Georgetown Traffic Advisory 🚨
We’ve been hearing from several folks saying, “The roads look clear.”
Unfortunately, that’s not the full picture.
What you may be seeing are main roads that appear mostly clear or just wet. But as temperatures continue to drop, that moisture is rapidly turning into sheets of ice and dangerous black ice.
Residential streets are even worse — many still have hard-packed snow, ice buildup, and untreated surfaces that will only get slicker as the evening goes on.
The sunshine earlier gave a false sense of improvement. In reality, many roads throughout the City and County remain snow-covered and icy, and conditions are worsening with falling temperatures.
Travel should be kept to a bare minimum.
If you must be out this evening or tomorrow morning:
• Slow down
• Increase following distance
• Avoid sudden braking or turns
• Watch bridges, hills, and shaded areas
Please use caution and stay safe out there.

Please keep all our first responders, public works, lineman , hospital staff and store workers in your thoughts and prayers. They are out leaving there families to keep yours safe. Please stay in and safe to keep the roads clear for those that need to get to those that are in emergency need.
Stay safe and warm !

As Winter Storm Fern approaches, the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the City of Georgetown have declared States of Emergency. It is essential to safety and snow removal that all vehicles parked on city streets be moved to an appropriate, safe, off-street location. Parking is prohibited on Emergency Snow Routes when 2+ inches of snow have accumulated. To view streets and roads by snow removal priority, please navigate to the Georgetown-Scott County Planning Commission's Georgetown Snow Removal Prioritization map. https://gis.gscplanning.com/snow-removal/
Travel during a State of Emergency should be limited to essential workers, first responders, and emergencies. Please prepare to stay indoors during the storm and have an emergency plan in place. State, County, and City of Georgetown road crews will be working around the clock to keep up with the unprecedented amount of anticipated snow and ice. Please exercise patience as our essential workers focus on Emergency Snow Routes and address critical needs in order of priority. Stay safe!

Starting Sunday morning through Monday, we will be assigning deputies to offer transportation to first responders, hospital staff/emergency medical care employees and others deemed essential workers.
If you have necessary life preserving medication that needs to be picked up we may also be able to help with that.
**Please understand, this service cannot be guaranteed. We will operate strictly by availability and priority. Please have a backup option in place in case we are unable to assist. If you have a request, please give as much notice as possible and don’t wait til the last minute**
You can contact us for requests on our non-emergency number at 502-863-7855 or message us in messenger on Facebook.
As a reminder, with incoming weather this weekend, our deputies will be receiving a large volume of calls. This is an important time to remember when you should call 911 vs when you should call the non-emergency number.
You should call 911 when:
A crime is in progress
Collisions with injuries
Medical emergencies
Fires
Electrical lines down
Gas/toxic leaks
An immediate situation where someone can be hurt
A non-emergency is considered:
Crimes not in progress
Non-injury collisions
Scheduled events (i.e. parades, sports)
Weather conditions
Report requests or delayed reports
Dog barking
Loud music
Illegal parking
Traffic violations
**Please keep travel to a minimal as more roadway presence leads to more risk of emergency response resources**
When not to risk driving in the elements:
Need Mt. Dew fix
Low v**e
Beer run
Need bread (it’s all gone anyway)
Boyfriend/Girlfriend need hug
4 wheeling
Coffee craving
Etc, etc.
Use good judgement and stay safe!
