Animal rescue has always been one of my greatest loves. Over the years, I’ve rescued and TNR’d more than 30 cats, but Oreo held a truly special place in my heart.
Oreo was born in my backyard, and over the year and a half I spent feeding her outside, we formed an incredibly special bond. After she was hit by a car and suffered a severe tail-pull injury, she could no longer use her tail or go to the bathroom on her own. I searched for 19 days before finally finding and rescuing her. Although the vet recommended euthanasia, I knew she still had so much life, love, and fight left in her.
For the next three years, Oreo became my best friend and my ride or die. I cared for her every day—changing her diapers, keeping her clean and comfortable, and making sure I was never away from home for too long. She was spicy and trusted only me, but she was completely devoted to me. Every day, she would chirp for me from her room until I came to see her.
On 9/14, her body and organs began to fail, and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go. She passed peacefully in my arms as I held her, cried, and told her it was okay to leave behind the pain, pampers, and limitations she had endured.
Oreo was never “just a cat.” She was my baby, my companion, and such a huge part of my life. My heart is broken, and I miss her more than words can say.
Until we meet again, my little spicy mamacita. 💔
