Every detail in the studio is hand selected by me. Every piece of decor, every color, every font, the music, the scents- it’s all carefully and intentionally chosen to provide the best experience possible. Creating a brand is strategic. What do you want it to say? How do you want it to make people feel? Your brand is your business’s personality.

For me, I want people to feel calm and at peace as soon as they walk in. The scent is soft, but noticeable. The music is catchy, but not familiar. The space is light and bright, but not harsh. Everything is cohesive from storefront to website to social media to business cards to the way I dress.

Finding the right elements to showcase your brand plays a key part in creating a successful business. If you don’t know where to start, put yourself in your customer’s shoes. What do you want to experience walking into your door or pulling up your website? What colors represent your brand? What do you feel when you see your brand?

A love letter to/about my studio:

I’ve been in this location for over four years now. I remember walking by it on my way to dinner. I parked in the parking garage connected to it, walked by, saw a for rent sign in the window, and thought “hm, maybe that could work”. After dinner, I stopped this time to get a picture of the sign with phone number and peek in the windows. The next day I called and was signing and moving in a month later to begin construction.

I had began looking earlier in the year. It was 2020, and we know how that year went. As things were shutting down, I was working with an agent and looking at a lot of locations. None were the right fit. As the beauty industry got shut down, I still looked. Then after weeks of my current studio at the time being closed, with no end in sight, I stopped my search of a new location. I had no income and no work, how was I going to afford a new location. The beauty industry was allowed to open in May, almost three months forced to shut down, and it became more about the new normal and figuring out how to navigate it rather than expanding my business.

From May to December I had given up on expanding and focused on the current and new regulations going on. In December I was with my husband meeting friends for dinner for a little Christmasy date night. He missed the parking garage we were going to park in and turned the corner to find a different one. I was not happy because it was very cold that night and now we had a longer walk to the restaurant. That walk led me by what would become my new business location. A parking garage we’d never parked in, a street I’d never walked, would become the walk I’d come to do regularly for the next four+ years. A parking garage I’d buy a pass in every month. A storefront I casually walked by that would become my business home.

The studio went through an initial construction phase of building a room, front desk, cabinets, counters, plumbing, remodeling the bathroom, changing out light fixtures, full painting, and more. Then it went through a second phase of remodeling/redecorating at the beginning of this year with painting, lighting, furniture and decor for the rebrand to Brow House when I sold Collective Beauty.

This space means so much more to me than just where I work. It represents so much more. I enjoy walking up to the door with my chosen business name on it to unlock it, turning on the lights I picked out and getting ready for a full day of clients that represent the years of building up to get to that point. And it reminds me that parking in the wrong garage can be divine intervention. I feel like I was supposed to find this space. At a time I wasn’t looking and had given up for the time being. I feel safe, proud, humble, happy, relaxed, and content in the studio. It reminds me of what I went through to get here. Not just since 2020, not since I got into the world of beauty, but throughout my whole life. This isn’t my end goal, but it was a goal. And I did it. I’m doing it. 🤎
