One thing I’ll never take for granted is having clients who trust me enough to listen to me when it comes to their hair. 🥹💛
And I don’t say that to brag I say it because I genuinely feel blessed.
When I recommend a trim, suggest giving the heat a break, tell you a certain style may not be the healthiest option, or recommend a treatment… it’s never just to sell you another service. There’s always a reason behind it.
My clients trust that I’m looking at the health of their hair first, not just how it’s going to look when they leave my chair.
That kind of trust between a stylist and client means EVERYTHING to me. Because when you listen, stay consistent, and allow me to do my job, we get to see the results together. 🙌🏾✨
So yes, I’m blessed with some amazing clients not because they just sit in my chair, but because they trust my knowledge, respect my professional opinion, and allow me to help them reach their hair goals.
And THAT is something I’ll always be grateful for. 💛
Healthy hair is always the goal. The style is just the bonus. ✨
Watch me turn THIS… into THIS. 🤎🍫
Let’s talk about my love-hate relationship with coloring hair. 😂
I absolutely LOVE the finished result. Watching a color come together is one of the most satisfying parts of what I do.
The actual coloring process though? Whew. 😂 And believe it or not, I actually prefer coloring bundles over coloring natural hair.
One thing I wish more people understood about hair color is that there’s SO much more to it than finding an inspiration picture and saying, “I want this color.”
When you show me an inspo picture, I’m not just looking at the color you want. As a licensed stylist, I’m looking at:
✨ Where your hair is starting
✨ How light it needs to become
✨ What underlying pigments will be exposed
✨ What formula will get us to the desired tone
✨ The current condition of your hair
✨ And most importantly can we realistically get there while maintaining the integrity of your hair?
That’s one reason I enjoy coloring bundles. I have a little more freedom to lighten, formulate, tone, adjust and really work toward the exact shade I’m trying to create without compromising someone’s natural hair.
When it comes to YOUR hair, healthy hair will always take priority over getting to a certain color in one appointment.
Sometimes your dream color can happen in one session.
Sometimes it takes multiple sessions.
And sometimes I have to tell you, “We can absolutely get there…we’re just not getting there TODAY.” 😂
That’s why color consultations are so important.
Inspiration pictures are the starting point not the formula. 🎨
There’s a whole lot of chemistry happening behind those pretty colors you save on Pinterest and bring to your stylist.
And after all the mixing, lifting, formulating, watching and waiting…
THIS chocolate brown was definitely worth the process. 🍫🤎
Would you rock this chocolate brown? 👀👇🏾

It’s bob season… but make it BRAIDS. 😍🔥
And listen, I’m always my clients’ FIRST hype man before they step out the door! 😂👏🏾 Because once I finish that hair, baby I need you to SEE what I see!
The playing in it…
The little head turn…
The “waittttt, let me see the back!” 😂
That’s how I know we did what needed to be DONE.
For this braided bob, we used just 1 bundle of my Island Curl Hair to give her the perfect amount of curls and fullness without taking away from that cute, lightweight bob look. 💛
Because who said Mermaid Braids have to be long?! 👀
Bob season has officially entered the braid chat.

✨ WORD OF MOUTH WILL FOREVER BE ONE OF THE BIGGEST COMPLIMENTS! ✨
There’s something special about hearing a client talk about their experience in my chair. 🥹❤️
So much of my business has grown because one client told a friend… who told a sister… who told a coworker… and somehow y’all just keep finding me. 😂🙌🏾 And I don’t take that for granted.
Every referral, every tag, every share, and every review helps my business more than you probably realize. It helps new clients feel comfortable trusting me, but it also helps ME grow as a stylist and business owner.
And I truly appreciate ALL feedback the good and the bad because I can’t improve what I don’t know needs improving.
Now thankfully… I haven’t had any bad reviews yet. 😂😂 AND WE WOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT THAT WAY! 🙌🏾🤣
But seriously, to every client who has sat in my chair, referred someone to me, left a review, shared my work, or simply told somebody, “Girl, go see Nicky!” THANK YOU. 🫶🏾
Y’all are a huge part of why I get to continue doing what I love. ❤️
If you’ve ever had an experience with me, drop a little love in the comments or leave me a review. I really do read and appreciate them! 🥰
One trend I absolutely despise is when a stylist shows a client’s hair before braids, then shows the damage afterward but gives no explanation of what actually happened.
Braids do not automatically damage your hair. The technique, the weight of the added hair, how the braids are maintained, how they are removed and how your natural hair is treated all matter.
Let’s start with the edges. When a heavy piece of extension hair is attached to a very small section of natural hair, the weight and tension alone can cause breakage. Once the braids begin growing out, you also have to be gentle with your styles. Constantly pulling grown-out braids into tight ponytails can put even more tension on your edges and rip them out.
Now let’s talk about the ends.
I tell my clients not to get a fresh, blunt trim immediately before getting braids. Those freshly cut ends may stick out of the braid, and some braiders will cut the loose pieces instead of properly tucking them. That is not a controlled haircut, and it can leave your ends uneven and damaged.
Some braiders also do not know how to properly tuck natural hair, so they cut every piece they see sticking out.
Damage can also happen during takedown. Some clients underestimate how long their natural hair has grown and cut the braid too high while removing it. They end up cutting their own hair along with the extension hair, which can leave their ends uneven and make it look like the braids caused the damage.
So yes, sometimes the damage is caused by the braider but client care matters too. Heavy styles, excessive tension, tight ponytails, leaving the style in too long, improper takedown and neglecting the natural hair underneath can all contribute to breakage.
This is why education is so important. The goal should never be to scare people away from braids. The goal should be to teach clients how to choose a knowledgeable braider, recognize excessive tension and properly care for their hair before, during and after the style.
Braids can be a beautiful protective style but only when the natural hair is actually being protected.

Not all shampoos are created equal. 💧
One of my go-to shampoos is Mizani Moisture Fusion because it cleanses the hair without leaving it feeling stripped or dry. I love that it helps restore moisture while leaving the hair soft, manageable, and ready for the next step of the service.
Your shampoo isn’t just about getting your hair clean it’s the foundation for healthy hair.

A silk press is more than just running a flat iron through your hair. ✨
It starts with a thorough blow dry, continues with controlled heat, and finishes with proper protection.
One of my favorite tips? Wrap your hair at night and add a wig cap over your hair before putting on your satin bonnet or scarf. It helps keep your hair smooth, protects your ends, and helps your silk press last longer.
Healthy hair will always be the priority around here. 🤎
