Today, exactly 11 years ago, I took a huge leap of faith & stepped out on my own as an independent contractor/owner of my own spa! ✨

I canNOT believe it’s been that long. 🤯 I’ve been an esthetician for over 16 years now also, which is crazy, because I’m only 30! 🤪

Throughout the years, I have moved around, trying to find where I “fit” best. Over time you realize it’s more about peace ☮️ than anything else. You create that yourself by doing what is best for you.

✨Skin 101: Dermaplaning Edition✨

Let’s take some time to do some Skin 101!📚

I’ve made a quick rundown on what Dermaplaning is, why it’s amazing, bust up the myths, and review the benefits!

What is Dermaplaning? ⁉️

It is a type of manual exfoliation where a flat blade is used to remove vellus hair and dead skin cells from the outermost layer of the skin on the forehead, cheeks, jawline, chin and lip areas.

(AKA ~ we shave you! 💦 🪒 ) 😉

Vellus hair is the “peach fuzz” hair that keeps us looking dull. 🍑

Dead skin cells normally will naturally shed off, however, there are many factors that sometimes prevent this from happening properly.
(Example: we feel dry or dull, so we glob on extra moisturizer/creams/etc….What we don’t realize though is that we are cementing alllll the dead cells onto our skin with these products.)

Myth Busting 💣 Time!

💣 Shaving makes hair grow back thicker and/or darker.
(False: this isn’t possible to do topically; hair growth stems from internal factors, such as hormones; shaving topically cannot change it)

💣 It’s dangerous/painful
(False: dermaplaning is quite relaxing, so much so that some clients doze off 😴 during it; also, it isn’t any more dangerous than shaving, but it is always best to go to someone who has experience)

💣 It isn’t good for deeper skin tones
(False: it’s actually great for every skin tone! In fact, darker tones generally have darker vellus hair, so it’s very beneficial to remove it to reveal that natural glow ✨, similar to lighter tones having very light hair that creates the same dullness)

Extra Info:

✅It stimulates skin cell turnover.
✅It’s refreshing!
✅It removes dead skin cells to allow the skin to breathe again! 💨 ahhh!

Aftercare is nothing more extensive than being gentle on it. I always recommend a day to let it “breathe”.

Also, always use SPF, wear hats 👒, and stay protected from damaging UV rays!
