Can we talk about perms for a second? 😊

Sometimes clients come in wanting soft, beachy waves. The tricky part is that with fine hair, if I use the rod size that creates that look today, it may relax so much over the next few weeks that the wave almost disappears.

That’s exactly what happened here (first photo).

So we decided to perm it again using a smaller rod. I’ll be honest… neither of us expected it to grab quite as tightly as it did. 😂 We spent a good 30 minutes laughing because she looked like she had stepped straight out of the ’80s!

But instead of panicking, we trusted the process.

Over the next few weeks, the curl relaxed beautifully into exactly what she had wanted from the beginning. (Swipe to the last two photos! 😍)

Sometimes you have to go through the “too curly” stage to get to the “just right” stage. With fine hair especially, we sometimes have to think about where the curl is going to be a few weeks from now—not just the day you leave the salon.

Hair doesn’t always follow the textbook, and every head is different. That’s why experience, patience, and realistic expectations matter so much.

Moral of the story: Don’t judge your perm by day one. Trust the process… and maybe be willing to laugh through the temporary ’80s phase. 😉💕
