I keep seeing this quote everywhere “I think if 2019 me & 2026 me sat in a room together and spoke, they wouldn’t believe each other” and it has really made me sit back and reflect, I think when we are caught in the trenches we have no other choice then to power through but now that I am 7 years out I can look back at 2019 and really acknowledge how hard that year and the following were for me and it’s so true that if you had told me then that I would be where I am now both physically and mentally I would never have believed you. Those years taught me a level of strength and resilience I never knew I had. I started 2019 pregnant and barely managing to function, I had my baby 7 months later and suffered from severe postpartum depression while trying to care for my very colicky baby who would scream if even tried to set her down and a 4 year old who was my little sidekick and very much still wanted her mom nonstop. By December, I had developed a lesion on my nose that turned out to be a basal cell carcinoma and had branched down far enough that they had to remove the whole side of my nose followed by two rounds of reconstructive surgery to fix it. Through the process, I felt absolutely hopeless and gradually became a shell of myself. Then three months later Covid hit and turned all our lives upside down, and I felt even more isolated and alone but through the process I became a new version of myself, and learned things about me that I never would have otherwise. Looking back on it today, I am honestly amazed at how long ago that time of my life seems and how drastically different things are today. This post isn’t a sympathy post or a poor me post, it is simply to remind you how quickly your whole life can change and the storm will always pass. I’m so grateful to be on the other side and thank you to everyone who was there for me during such a difficult time and a shout out to my amazing plastic surgeon Eric Cerrati, MD, FACS for saving my nose, if you want to see the crazy process of fixing my nose and your not squeamish you can swipe to the end because it is truly fascinating what they are able to achieve with plastic surgery
