Voodoo has often been unfairly stigmatized due to misconceptions and sensationalism surrounding the concept of zombies. In popular culture, zombies are depicted as mindless, reanimated corpses controlled by a sorcerer. These depictions have contributed to a distorted and demonizing view of Voodoo practices, which are, in reality, spiritual traditions with a deep respect for the natural world.

Li Grande Zombi, also known as the Great Serpent, is a revered spirit in New Orleans Voodoo and other Afro-Caribbean religions. It symbolizes wisdom, fertility, and the cycle of life, and is not associated with the undead or the modern notion of zombies. Li Grande Zombi is considered a powerful and benevolent spirit, embodying the connection between the natural and spiritual realms. It has nothing to do, with the dark and malevolent forces often linked with zombie mythology. Li Grande Zombi is however associated with Damballah.
