Yesterday was our LARGEST Patches And Perspectives event yet… and whew, what a night.
Before I even made it inside, Houston weather tried to take me out 😅 I got caught in a storm, stepped straight into a massive puddle in the dark, and by the time I reached the building I was SOAKED. Shoes full of water. Clothes drenched. Hair, everything. I literally had to stand in the bathroom using the hand dryer and paper towels, stuffing my shoes and doing the best I could to pull myself together.
No time to complain though… because the moment I stepped out to set up, the kids were READY. I couldn’t even get the patches on the table before the excitement started. “Just give me a minute!” turned into needing backup so someone could help hold them off while I finished setting up 😄
The setup itself needed reshifting, Kennedy wasn’t there, and I had to press every single hat by myself. It was a LOT. But here’s how I know this is something I’m truly graced for… I wasn’t frustrated. I wasn’t overwhelmed. I was calm. Patient. Present. And I actually enjoyed myself.
The kids ranged from toddlers to teens, and they were incredible. Smart, curious, helpful, and so comfortable with me. Some were patient, some were bursting with excitement, but all of them were FULL of personality. They treated their hats like masterpieces. After I pressed them, they didn’t even want to put them in the bags “Can I wear it now? I want it now!” 🥹
For many of them, this wasn’t just a hat. It was their creativity. Their expression. Their choices. I even got to talk with some of the older kids about why they picked certain patches, and hearing their little explanations just made the whole night feel even more special.
I was moving so much and helping so many people that I didn’t even get to capture as many pictures or videos as I wanted I was too busy actually running the show and making sure every child got taken care of.
Today, I am EXHAUSTED. My body feels it. Working all night in wet shoes on pure adrenaline is catching up to me for sure. But I wouldn’t change a thing.
Last night reminded me that when God places something in your hands, He also gives you the grace, the patience, and the joy to carry it out. And this… this felt aligned.
Grateful. Tired. Full-hearted.
And already on to my next event Saturday...but I'm resting today.❤️
