🌿 Yesterday morning's little garden haul...

While I was at my grandma and aunt's house yesterday, I couldn't help myself. I grabbed some scissors and went to work in their herb garden. 😂

Their oregano has been growing since last year and apparently hasn't been bothered much — and clearly, it has been VERY happy about that.

So I came home with oregano, rosemary, and a big bunch of thyme, and now I've got some processing to do. 🌿

One thing I've really grown to love is taking something straight from the plant and following it all the way through — harvesting it, drying it, storing it, and eventually finding a use for it.

And there's something extra special about this batch coming from my grandma and aunt's garden. 🤍

Now to get all of this dried and tucked away before I decide I need to go back with my scissors again. 😂

I've got 10 Discovery Kits going together, which means lots of tiny containers, lots of labels, and a whole lot of Stillwater & Sage packed into one little box.

I'm also making a few changes to these kits based on what I've learned from the first round — one of my favorite parts of making things in small batches is being able to adjust, improve, and keep building something better each time.

Back to filling tiny jars I go. 😂

🌿 One of the unexpected things Stillwater & Sage has given me...

I notice things now.

A couple of years ago, I could have walked right past this patch and thought absolutely nothing of it. Just another plant growing on the side of the road.

Now?

I may have gotten a little too excited and immediately went, “THAT'S MULLEIN!” 😂

Over the weekend we went to visit some friends who were camping, and I spotted this entire patch — mature second-year mullein towering over everything, with first-year rosettes scattered all over the ground underneath them.

And I had to stop.

I wanted to feel the leaves. See how big the mature plants actually get. Feel how heavy those giant stalks are. Look at the old flower and seed heads. Compare them to the first-year mullein I'm growing at home.

I brought a few of the dried plants home mostly for the experience (and because you KNOW I'm going to investigate those seed heads 👀🌱).

But I think my favorite part wasn't actually finding the mullein.

It was realizing that I'm starting to recognize what's growing around me.

This little business has made me curious in a completely different way. If I see something I don't recognize, I want to know what it is. I want to learn what it does. I want to know why it's growing there and what people have historically done with it.

Things I've probably walked past a thousand times suddenly aren't just weeds anymore.

And I think that's pretty damn cool. 🤍🌿

Today’s project? Turning 20 pounds of potatoes into homemade freezer French fries for my family.

Cut, soaked, blanched, cooled, portioned and headed for the freezer — squeezed in between mom life and everything else that needed done today.

Did I underestimate how long 20 pounds of potatoes would take? Absolutely.

Did I possibly sacrifice a finger in the process? Also yes. 😂

But there’s something really satisfying about looking at a freezer stocked with food I made myself.

One more little step toward doing more from scratch around here. 🤍🌿
