💙🤍 In Loving Memory of Jalen 🤍💙

Last night, we lost a beautiful soul and an incredibly talented musician. My heart is heavy thinking about Jalen and the many lives he touched through JSU Sonic Boom of the South

I entered the band in 2013 during a period of major transition. The program was changing, traditions were being challenged, and our clarinet section was learning what it meant to build something different. I was fortunate to be part of a group of people who helped push our section toward a safer environment while still demanding excellence, discipline, and that unmistakable JSU sound.

Then came 2017.

Jalen joined the clarinet section as a freshman, the same year our section name evolved from Hype Pipe to Pinnacle Øf Power 🔊💙🩵 P.Ø.P. . And honestly, he embodied that name. 🔥

Jalen was EXTREMELY talented, but beyond his musicianship, he was kind, humble, and genuinely sweet. Watching him grow from a freshman clarinet player into a leader of the very section he had inherited was something special.

That is the beautiful thing about music and legacy: sometimes we plant seeds without knowing who will grow from them. 🌱🎶

Jalen was one of those people who carried the torch forward. He took what we had begun, added his own brilliance to it, and helped shape the next generation of Pinnacle of Power.

From one clarinet player to another, thank you for carrying the sound forward. Thank you for the music, the memories, the laughter, and the legacy.

Rest peacefully, Jalen. 💙🤍

House of Honey II is a curated sonic journey inspired by Oshun and Yemaya, two revered Orishas within the Yoruba spiritual tradition and its diasporic traditions.

Oshun is associated with sweet waters, love, beauty, sensuality, pleasure, creativity, fertility, and abundance. She reminds us of the sweetness and beauty that can exist in life.

Yemaya is associated with the ocean, motherhood, protection, nurturing, intuition, and the profound mysteries of the deep waters.

For House of Honey II, I wanted to explore the meeting point between those energies — sweetness and depth, softness and strength, river and ocean, honey and water.

Every track was intentionally chosen to create a feeling and carry the listener through a journey. Some moments are meant to make you move. Others are meant to make you slow down, reflect, surrender, and simply feel.

This is more than a playlist. It’s an atmosphere. A mood. A sonic offering.
