I get asked often for “lots of layers” when discussing things my client wants to achieve from an inspo picture.

Density and length are my 2 big factors to consider, and knowing what to tweak in order to get as close as possible to the goal.

If you are looking for a super “full, layered, butterfly” look and your hair is fine, layers will work against you. Preserving fullness in the back and focusing on your face frame will allow you a very similar look without compromising your perimeters fullness.

I could talk for hours about this for both client & stylist perspective— but to start,

– a good face frame is going to give you as close to your desired look as you can get all while preserving overall density 😉

Points of question when I’m working with brunettes🍂

1. Level • how dark/light
2. Dimesional or monochromatic • do you want a more solid/blended look or bold dimension, light around your face?
3. T O N E • warm tones? cool tones?

Tone is where I do the most talking, but also where I break it down as simple as possible

» cool toned brunettes | moody, deep, bold, less dimensional looking due to less light reflection 🖤
» warm toned brunettes (my favorite) | soft, golden hour loving, rich, flirty 🤎

You can be a warm brunettes without seeing red, and you can be a cool brunette without feeling dull.

Short to the point, but take what you want from it.

Also, do not come in asking for teddy bear mocha cookie brown because this ain’t your coffee order girl, it’s chemistry class 👩🏻‍🔬

So much goes into when the right time is.
How damaged/porous is your hair?
How often do you wash? What do you wash with?
Where do you live, what’s the water like?
Are you in the sun or a pool often?
Alkaline or acid color? Demi or Semi?
Budget, ofcourse.

So many factors to consider.
All of my clients are on different timelines, and are n o t purple shampoo users.
✨My simple rule of thumb,
Tone shifting warm, getting dull, and dryness.

Ask your stylist, and trust their suggestion.

Maintenance isnt an option, it’s a requirement for bleached hair. If you can’t remember the last time you booked a tone or gloss, it’s time. 🤍
