But our ancestors were speaking in code.
Braids, locs, and cornrows were used to create maps, messages, and escape routes—guiding our people to safety when freedom had to be hidden in plain sight.
Every part meant something.
• Paths
• Roads
• Rivers
• Meeting points
Seeds were even woven into hair so life could be replanted after escape.
Our hair was never “just a style.”
It was strategy. Survival. Resistance. Intelligence.
So when we wear our locs, our braids, our crowns—we’re wearing history.
This is Black History.
This is ancestral genius.
This is encoded power. 👑
