Whether Pholk is popping up at a local artisan market, a large-scale beauty experience, or a VIP event like the premiere party for Life in the W on ESPN — our assignment stays the same: educating people on how to make healthier, happier, resilient skin easier to achieve.

This day was no different. We found ourselves in Jamie Foxx’s backyard, under a full California sun at 90 degrees, with one job: keep guests’ skin hydrated, glowy, and photo-ready.

There was a lot going on — an ESPN “Life in the W” panel with DeWanna Bonner Larrance Dopson TA (JEFE), and showrunner TRISHTAN WILLIAMS 🌟, super dope DJs, incredible food and dessert (Chey'Dough LLC I’m looking at you) , synchronized swimmers and performances. And of course real connections being made amongst the sports and entertainment glow getters.

Guests couldn’t get enough of the honeysuckle rose meadow notes in our Glow Water. To keep skin photo-ready, we used a nano mister for a super fine, makeup-friendly mist. And because I took inspiration from my grandmother’s bo***ir, the set had blotting papers for excess oil, tips for touch-ups, and mints — a little Southern sweetness thrown in. 🍬

Y’all it was def a day to remember… except that I lost my phone! lol + smh!So, I’m beyond grateful to Bri’Che Lynn who joined me for this adventure and captured our Glow Bar experience to share with y’all. ✨✨✨

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted! Real talk: for a lot of last year, Pholk looked bigger on the algorithm than it was in real life. I decided to scale down the business and figure out how to pivot (once again!) in this new climate. Advisors told me to stop using words like “Black” “Afro-Appalachian” and even melanin.

Welp, in 2026 I responded by making chaga melanin one of my signature ingredients to make sure that I continued to educate on the wellness benefits of melanin.

I increased my use of Black southern plants like okra and honeysuckle to deepen my commitment to Black folk wellness.

And I continue to bring Pholk into cultural, fitness, and q***r spaces that match what I believe in and how I actually live. 🤎👟🏳️‍🌈

Most of that work has been happening in person, quietly. Just like the resilient soul food plants that always find a way to thrive, I’ve also been becoming a different kind of business owner than I was a year ago. More adaptive, resilient and ready for growth.

This is a peek into the preparation for a transformative event that so was a part a few weeks ago.
