There are so many times when we have no idea just how badly someone needed us and our timing was nothing less than perfect.
Last night, my last client..whom I adore, was that for me. She gave me everything I needed in my time with her and I’m sure she has no idea the impact she had on me.
The last couple years have been much of a whirlwind for me. Knowing my body was not going to allow me to continue to do hair as much as I would like has not been easy. Making the decision to end my business which I have poured my heart and soul into almost broke me…. and I questioned myself time and time again.
One conversation at exactly the right time changed everything. A young lady who was excited to learn from me how to take care of her curly hair. The fire inside me was once again ignited and my purpose was once again clear.
It was just the 2 of us, talking about how to take care of her hair, how to dry it, what products to use. How to wear it to bed, how to refresh it…I could have talked with her forever! I never loved the “business” of it, but I’ve always loved the hair.
At the end of the night she apologized for keeping me late. To Katie….I say THANK YOU!
Thank you for reminding me what it is that I love doing behind the chair. On a day I was questioning all the changes coming I ended my night in peace, knowing it all going to be ok 😘

I can’t believe it’s August already…
I probably should have made this post awhile ago, but I never have been good at closing doors.
I had a lot of time on my hands in 2020, between Covid closing the salon and finally having shoulder surgery after suffering in pain for the last 4 years. All this time to think forced me to look at my future as a stylist and the future of Studio J.
For those that have stuck with me, you know the surgery was not the miracle cure I had hoped it would be 😢. My left arm will never be as good as it once was… I am currently working between 4-8 hours/week when I once was working 40-60 hours/week doing hair.
The time has come for me to listen to my body and most importantly put myself first….Something I have not been able to do over my 24 year career as a stylist.
It was never my dream to open a salon in a small town where I felt an outsider. Over 12 years ago I did just that. I quickly was welcomed by the community and Studio J became a name people knew. I met the most amazing people who cheered me on and who became so much more than clients. I’ve cried with you, laughed with you, listened to you and have been heard by you. I have given advice and have received some of the best advice. We’ve had hair party’s with sushi (some of you figured out how to bribe me 🤔), I’ve ran down in my pj’s and slippers to grab you lice shampoo 😬, I have prayed 🙏🏼 for you, and 1 of you I locked in the salon with color on your head so I could go pick up my sick daughter at school. I’m pretty sure I have done it all!
Whether you sat in my chair or another Studio J stylist’s chair I have appreciated each and every one of you. The time has come….to shut the door.
The building is sold and Studio J Salon will shut it’s door for the final time on Wednesday August 11th.
New doors are opening and the future looks bright! I am not ready to hang up my scissors ✂️ and neither are the Studio J stylists. Chelsea will be starting a new adventure as a business owner @ Belle A Me in Belle Plaine. Lori is headed to Snips Salon in town and plans to work her same schedule. I too will be headed to Snips, and I am excited for what the future holds. Gina will make her decision soon and we will keep you posted. We are all excited to continue on with our love of hair 💕. We hope you will continue to see us as we begin our new adventures.
The last 12 years have been amazing and I wouldn’t change a single thing. Thank you all who have played a part in making Studio J the success it has been.
