Doing something new to your hair doesn’t have to take over your life. You don’t have to bite off more than you can chew. And you can be that chick without having to be that overwhelmed-with-maintenance chick😇 do what you’re willing to do. The end🫶🏼
I spent years thinking my hair was the problem.
It wasn’t.
Growing up with my hair was incredibly difficult. It consumed more time than I’d like to admit. I was the only one in my family with “this hair,” and there was no YouTube or internet to learn from.
I was shy and insecure. As I got older, I started outcasting myself from anything that made me feel like I was trying to fit in.
But fitting in was all I really wanted.
At 13, I chemically straightened my hair, thinking it would solve all my problems. Instead, it reinforced the idea that my hair was difficult, different, and that I would never be as effortless as the other girls I saw.
I actually started doing hair because I believed my own hair couldn’t do anything.
If I couldn’t have the hair I wanted, at least I could give someone else the hair color or haircut they wanted.
People have always told me they love my hair. That they wish they had my hair. That people pay good money to have hair like mine.
I still hear it today.
But the reason I felt different and out of place was never actually my hair.
I felt the same way even after I learned how to make it “beautiful.”
That little girl who felt out of place was still there.
She always has been.
I walk with her every day.
I’m learning to be at peace with myself, especially as I get older and realize how much time I spent being hard on myself when I could have been enjoying my youth.
Changing things on the outside will never fix what’s happening inside.
Looking in the mirror and being present with yourself right here, right now is a lifelong journey. For some, it’s easier than others.
This was never about hair.
I have a hard time keeping things superficial and light on social media because I don’t have a history of doing my hair just for fun.
There’s a lot more underneath it for me, and maybe for you too. But I’m so blessed to still be here and learning. And I’m grateful for all of you who have let me do your hair.
And who should cut it?
And what should I do with my kids’ hair?
What about my husband’s hair?
Ohh I like their hair.
I wish I had _____ hair.
How come my hair does this.
Oh crap it’s changing colors.
We’re gonna color this.
I like their color. I should get that color.
Why is it frizzy?
Why is it flat?
Why is there so much!?
Why am I losing it?
We literally go through SO much for some dead keratin hanging on the top of our heads.
Like… has anybody thought about this?🤣
And somehow, after all of that, we still have to wake up tomorrow and figure out what the hell we’re doing with it. And what to cook🙄 let’s have fun with it, no stress.
Your curly hair doesn’t come with rules. It comes with conditions and consequences, but definitely not rules.
You can have a really defined, controlled style one day and wear your curls fluffy and full the next.
You can smooth them. You can stretch them. You can let them do their thing.
The fun part is learning what your hair responds to and understanding that you don’t have to wear it the same way every time.
Curly hair isn’t as finicky as we make it out to be. But it is confusing as hell sometimes.
It takes effort to learn, experiment, and pay attention to what your hair is telling you.
And yes, water is a big part of that conversation. But it’s not the whole conversation.
Your texture, density, strand, shape, styling technique, environment, and even how much control you want all change the equation.
There isn’t one “right” way to wear it. And someone’s “right” way of doing their hair can be completely wrong for you and yours.
That’s what I love about curly hair. We’re all on our own lil jacked-up journey trying to figure it out.

Are you fearless?
Because this kind of color comes with a little more commitment.
The more of your hair we color, the more noticeable your regrowth will be as your natural hair comes back in. That means your maintenance will look different than it would with a more strategically placed or dimensional color.
More impact = more upkeep.
That doesn’t mean you have to avoid it. It just means we want to choose a color and placement that fits how often you actually want to be in the salon.
Love the look? We can talk about what maintenance would look like for you before we commit. ——-

You don’t actually want perfection.
You want options.
Social media shows us these perfect routines, with perfect products, creating perfect curls. (That are usually done somewhere where climate control is a regular btw)
And when I first started, I thought that was “the goal.”
Like if I knew all the techniques, used the right products, and did everything correctly… my curls should look perfect every time.
And if they didn’t? I don’t deserve to claim I know anything at all (dramatic I know😂)
But after talking to so many of you in my chair, I don’t think that’s what most of us are looking for.
We want to know HOW to style our hair.
We want the knowledge. The confidence. The choice.
But we also want to be able to do less and feel good letting our hair be wild.
I love a good cast and perfectly styled wash day. (I actually don’t love day 1, it’s too perfect. I love the longevity I get out of it)
But I also love big messy hair. I love ocean hair. I love just styling my face framers and throwing the rest up. I love dry styling with mousse. I love following NO rules.
The difference is knowing I have the option.
I made peace with being the wild hair lady and in that I’ve gained freedom.
You shouldn’t learn how to style just to make it a chore. Learn so you have the choice✨

WATER is the main character on wash day. Without it, your shampoo is fighting for its life.
Hair needs to be properly saturated while you shampoo AND condition. This is the only way your products will do their job
Before you reach for more shampoo add more water first. (I didn’t say don’t double cleanse)
Before you reach for more conditioner add MORE water first!
The goal is to get your hair to stay wet and be balanced. You’ll actually see the hair almost like “give up” and stay wet. It’s very neat.
Wait I’m not done yet
LATHER yo dang shampoo. Rub your hands together until your shampoo is creamy. Then put it on your WET hair.
Your shampoo will spread further and you don’t waste product.
If you have low porosity hair, a hot towel or steamer will help your hair to hold water.
If you have high porosity, using a bonding treatment will help fix the structure so you can hold water.
And if you’re a unicorn you just wash your hair and move along ok?
