Patients suffering from chronic pain or movement dysfunction find sustained relief through a variety of Manual Therapy modalities our staff offer at The Temple Human Performance Center. We offer alternatives to surgery or pharmaceutical options by treating underlying dysfunctional patterns, and improperly ingrained neurologic issues, which are often the primary problem preventing people from living high quality, functional lives. Our clinic focuses on finding progressive, restorative, and sustainable solutions for our clients to regain their long-term health utilizing our brain based therapy and a focused client approach on proper posture.
Tennis Elbow Technique: Supporting the Entire Chain
When dealing with lateral elbow pain, it can be helpful to look beyond the elbow itself. Most people spend a lot of their day with the forearm in a pronated position, with the palms facing down or toward the body. Typing, scrolling on a phone, using a mouse, gripping a golf club, or swinging a tennis racket all involve variations of this position. They simply don't spend as much time with the palms facing up, or in supination.
This technique introduces that less frequently used position while adding resistance and movement. With the palms-up grip and tension maintained on the band, the shoulders have to actively control the movement while the forearms and elbows manage the resistance. Add the squat and overhead lift, and the lower body, trunk, shoulder, and arm all have to coordinate rather than placing all of the demand on the elbow.

Tennis Elbow: Understanding Lateral Elbow Pain
“Tennis elbow” is commonly used to describe lateral elbow pain associated with repeated loading of the wrist and forearm. Despite the name, it can affect anyone who regularly grips, lifts, swings, types, or performs repetitive upper-body movements.
The muscles and tendons that control the wrist and fingers attach around the outside of the elbow, making this area important for transferring and managing load. When these tissues are exposed to more demand than they can comfortably tolerate, pain and reduced grip capacity can develop.
At Temple Human Performance, we look beyond the painful area to understand how the wrist, forearm, elbow, shoulder, and surrounding kinetic chain are working together.
Manual therapy can be used to address mobility and muscular tension, while targeted strengthening and movement techniques progressively build capacity and improve control.
Research supports combining manual therapy with prescribed exercise as an approach for reducing pain and disability associated with lateral elbow pain. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38802121/
At Temple, our therapists use hands-on work to improve movement, then reinforce those changes with active movement and progressive loading.
The goal is not simply to make the elbow feel better temporarily but to improve how the entire upper extremity handles load so you can return to the activities you enjoy.
If elbow pain is affecting your golf swing, workouts, work, or everyday activities, schedule a session with our team at Temple Human Performance and let’s take a closer look at how you move.

📚 Education is at the foundation of what we do at Temple Human Performance.
This past weekend, Paul was in Olympia, Washington teaching Spinal Kinematics to fellow movement and manual therapy professionals through .
While our education programs help professionals better understand movement, biomechanics, and nervous system function, that same approach is central to the work we do with our clients every day.
We believe you should understand how your body moves and why efficient movement matters, whether you're working to improve performance, move more comfortably, or get back to the activities you enjoy.

Ankle Stability Technique 3: Toe Grips
The toes and smaller muscles of the foot play an important role in creating a stable connection with the ground and controlling movement throughout the kinetic chain.
Adding resistance to the toes creates a greater challenge, and changing the position of the foot introduces torque from different angles, allowing foot and toe control to be challenged in multiple positions while developing strength, coordination, and stability.
The resistance bands and door hanger used in this technique are available for purchase through our online shop at https://www.templehp.com/gear/
Ankle stability continues with the foot’s ability to actively control position and manage load.
Technique 2: Intrinsic Toe Raises target the smaller intrinsic musculature responsible for refined toe control while providing mechanical input to the tendons, ligaments, and articular structures of the foot.
This helps develop neuromuscular coordination, proprioceptive awareness, and dynamic foot control that contribute to efficient load management through the ankle and kinetic chain.
