You might think you know what your skin needs-
But I would argue it’s just as important to know what it doesn’t.

If every product you’re using on your face has active ingredients, your skin barrier is in trouble.
If you’re tempted to google:
what are active ingredients, or what is my skin barrier and what does a damaged skin barrier look like- stick around.

Active ingredients are the ingredients that actually treat your skin. Think- vitamin c, retinol, BHA, AHA, etc.
Your skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin. It keeps water in and most other things out.
When it’s damaged- you’re more likely to see acne of various types, or redness, or feel like you have extremely sensitive skin. *likely all of the above*

To be clear- you do need active ingredients. You *don’t* need them *YET* if your barrier is non existent.
Adding actives makes your skin panic, and worsens your existing issues.
Adding actives when your skin barrier is healthy is when you actually get the benefit of the actives.

I would say that 85% of my acne clients come in with multiple of their skincare products including active ingredients- including their cleanser and moisturizer.

If you’re breaking out- stop the multiple actives for a month, and then add in ONE active that you build up your skins tolerance to.
