I’ve recently been asked “why do you do hair?” and “what it means to me.”

You know when I think about how my love for doing hair started it makes everything so bittersweet. For some of you may know I served in the U.S. Navy and that’s where it began for me. When I first joined and someone told me that I was going to be a barber on the ship I would’ve laughed. But I truly believe everything happens for a reason and mine was learning to become an amazing barber. Trust me I wasn’t good at it at all when I first started but then again no one is. If it weren’t for the great people surrounding me, helping me learn and me looking up videos in my free time I wouldn’t be where I am today. When I first got out of my active duty I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue to do hair. But in all honesty I just couldn’t get away from it. Something told me to go to school and get my license. It’s the best decision I’ve made. I truly love what I do. I do hair now because I get to help lift people up, give them a certain feeling of confidence and be there listening ear when they want to vent about something or just have a nice conversation.

“What does it mean to me?”
Being a barber and doing hair means I get to go to work everyday and work with an amazing group of people. I get to see the smile on my clients faces when they leave my chair and book their following appointments. Being a barber doesn’t just mean you’re there to do there hair your also there acquaintance as you could say or some are good friends. You get to have a special kind of bond with that person in your chair. That’s honestly my favorite part of my job is being there for my clients to talk about whatever they want to or even to just sit in silence because some don’t get that often.
