Hey y’all!
There’s a new face at Uncommon Beauty Bar — meet Courtnie Gibbs! 🫶 We actually went to beauty school together 18 years ago (😮 crazy, right?) so let’s just say… she’s been behind the chair for a minute.

Courtnie brings the sweet to my spice 🤣 — when I think of her, I think sweetie pie, animal lover, ocean soul, laid-back giggly blonde with a natural eye for what looks good on people.

She’s obsessed with all things beauty: the perfect blonde moment, effortlessly lived-in color, and my personal fave — extensions that’ll have you feelin’ yourself all the way home. ✨

Fueled by family, inspired by travel, and grounded in glam — she’s a hair slayer by day, ocean chaser for life. ā˜€ļø

Breaking Up the Dark: The Reality of Lightening Hair

Going lighter from dark hair color isn’t an overnight transformation—it’s a process. And while it may not always be ideal, it can be done beautifully with the right approach.

The key? Realistic expectations.

My client originally wanted grey-toned highlights, but I explained a few important things:
1ļøāƒ£ After lightening, her hair wouldn’t be the right shade to achieve that cool grey tone.
2ļøāƒ£ Grey is temporary—once it fades, the hair will revert to its underlying pigment.
3ļøāƒ£ While going lighter was possible, we’d likely land in a warm, caramel-toned range rather than an ashy tone, which wouldn’t be the most flattering on her.

✨ Why? ✨
When hair is too dark with no dimension, it can make facial shadows (like dark circles or wrinkles) more pronounced. Adding lighter pieces brings warmth, softness, and light reflection, enhancing a more youthful, vibrant look.

This isn’t a ā€œwham, bam, thank you ma’amā€ kind of process—it takes patience and technique!

šŸ”¹ The Game Plan:
	•	I used a full head of teasy foils with 10 vol, processed for about an hour, then rinsed.
	•	Her base color was shifted just one shade lighter (Keune Tinta 3.00 → 4.00).
	•	Her ends were toned with Keune 7, 7.18, and 8.19 to neutralize warmth and create balance.

We’re taking this journey step by step, with the goal of slowly adding more lightened pieces over time and making subtle base adjustments. She’ll still need regular root touch-ups, but hopefully, she feels refreshed and more youthful already!

šŸ‘‰ Thinking about lightening your hair but unsure of what’s possible? Let’s chat and create a plan that works for you! āœØšŸ’‡ā€ā™€ļø

I see you.

Authenticity is Everything.

I’ve always believed that the way we show up in the world matters. Not the polished, filtered version of ourselves, but the real us—the messy, raw, honest version.

For me, authenticity means staying true to who I am, even when it’s hard or uncomfortable. It’s about knowing my values, owning my imperfections, and not shrinking myself to fit into someone else’s idea of ā€œenough.ā€

But let’s be real—being authentic isn’t always easy. We live in a world that rewards perfection and performance, and sometimes it feels like being yourself is the riskiest thing you can do. I get that. I’ve felt that. But here’s what I’ve learned: when we choose authenticity, we choose freedom. We stop carrying the weight of pretending to be something we’re not.

And here’s the thing: stop copying others. Their story isn’t your story. Their path isn’t yours. When you try to mimic someone else, you’re dimming the very things that make you unique. You’re not here to be a replica—you’re here to be one of a kind. The world doesn’t need another version of them; it needs the truest version of YOU.

This matters to me because I want to be surrounded by people who are unapologetically themselves, even if it’s messy or imperfect, because that’s where real connection happens.

So here’s my reminder to you (and to myself): You don’t have to be for everyone. You just have to be YOU. The people who are meant to be in your life will love you for it, and more importantly, you’ll love yourself for it.

Let’s ditch the filters—on our photos and our lives—and lean into who we are. because being real is always worth it, and when you’re true to yourself, it allows the right people to stay and the wrong ones to go their own way.
