Starter locs are exactly that — the start of the locking process.

A few things to know before starting:

✨Your texture matters.

Tighter coil patterns may lock differently or faster than looser textures, but ALMOST any texture can loc with the proper method and patience.

✨Your starting method matters.

Two-strand twists, coils, braids, interlocking and crochet methods can all create locs, but each one develops differently and varies for certain textures, lifestyles or desired results.

✨Your grid matters.

Part size, placement and hair density all contribute to the eventual size, fullness and styling versatility of your locs.

✨Frizz is part of the process.

Trying to keep starter locs looking freshly done 24/7 can lead to unnecessary manipulation. LET THEM BE.

✨Shrinkage and swelling are normal.

Your locs may get shorter, thicker or less uniform before they begin looking more mature.

✨Maintenance should be consistent, not excessive.

Retwisting too frequently or constantly manipulating your starters isn’t going to make them lock faster. LET THEM BE.
