Legends never die!
David Bowie Performance Heroes live at Glastonbury Festival, 25th June 2000 🇬🇧

Resistance and Hope in David Bowie’s “Heroes”

David Bowie’s song “Heroes” was inspired by a real-life scene: a couple kissing near the Berlin Wall amidst the surveillance and repression of the Cold War. That couple—Tony Visconti and Antonia Maass—was involved in a forbidden relationship, making the lyrics even more significant as they symbolize the courage to defy political and social barriers. Bowie transforms this intimate moment into a universal symbol of resistance and hope, demonstrating how personal gestures can take on collective meaning in contexts of oppression.

The lyrics contain direct references to the division of Berlin—such as “the guns shot above our heads” and “the shame was on the other side”—reflecting the tense atmosphere surrounding Hansa Studios, where the song was recorded under the watchful eyes of Soviet guards. The dolphin metaphor in the line “I wish you could swim like the dolphins can swim”—inspired by the book *A Grave for a Dolphin*—reinforces the longing for freedom and unity. The repetitive chorus and Bowie’s intense delivery amplify the message that, even in the face of adversity, anyone can be a hero, if only for a day. The song celebrates the power of small acts of love and courage in the face of immense obstacles.

Watsu® is a deeply calming, warm-water experience where you are gently supported, floated, and moved into a state of profound release here in Lakewood, Colorado in a private, heated salt water pool!

Stress softens. The mind quiets. The body lets go in ways it can’t on land.
If your nervous system is asking for rest that actually reaches it, this is it! The water is calling. The work continues to unfold long after the session ends.
