Scientists just discovered a way to double the brain’s natural waste-clearing system — simply by gently massaging the skin. A new study published in Nature reveals a surprising breakthrough in how the brain removes waste. Researchers found that stimulating lymphatic vessels in the face and neck can significantly boost the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) — the liquid responsible for flushing toxins from the brain. In experiments on mice, scientists from the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) used a gentle mechanical stimulator on the skin. The result was striking: brain waste clearance nearly doubled, and fluid drainage pathways were restored even in older animals. Why does this matter?
