Recently, I have been going through a personal journey navigating my career as a black women in a corporate space and having to fight for my worth. I was feeling very stressed and defeated. Questioning if it was worth it. If I should just accept whatever they were willing to give me even if I knew it was unfair for fear of the potential backlash I might receive for speaking up for myself.
However, once I stumbled across these pictures, I knew God was reminding how hard I worked to get to where I am today.
As a young child with undiagnosed learning disabilities, I struggled through school and literally couldn’t read or write all the way through most of high school. I was into my 2nd year of high school and my 2nd time repeating the 9th grade that I ended up suffering a major brain injury. This caused me to be put in an inclusive special ed class. There I had to relearn almost everything. Fortunately, I had a teacher who took the time and worked with me.
The next school year, I moved to Maryland. Again, for the 3rd time, I was supposed to be in the 9th grade but the school counselor looked at me and she said, “I don’t believe the things this paper says about you. Let’s test you and see where you fall.” They tested me and I test college level in every subject except reading so that put in my right grade, which was 11th and from the earn honor roll until I graduated in 2002. That’s the year I became Who’s Who Among American High School Students for my school.
I was diagnosed with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and ADHD and despite the diagnosis I went on to community college, graduated with Associate Degree, and graduated from WAU with my Dual Bachelor’s Degree in 2012. In 2014, received my Dual Master’s and continued on to start my doctorate.
Not to mention I did all of this while working on my career in education going from a preschool classroom aide to a classroom teacher to a lead teacher, lead training teacher, an assistant director, an associate director all before leaving to become a public school teacher in 2011 (and let’s not start into the multitude of businesses I’ve owned since I was 18 and the fact I’ve published a book). 
God wanted to know I’m worth every single bit of my worth and I can demand it with my head held high.
