“Up to 70% commission” is the most misleading line in a hiring post… and it works because good stylists get excited before they get the math. 🧾

Here’s the trap. You bring in $10,000. The flyer says 70%, so your brain says $7,000. But back bar, your color, assistant pay, overhead and taxes come out of that number first… and what’s actually left is closer to $3,000. That’s 30%. Not 70.

That’s not commission. Commission is a cut of what YOU bring in. A cut of what’s left after everyone else got paid first has a name… it’s profit share. It’s not wrong to offer it. It’s wrong to not name it.

So stop walking into interviews asking “what’s the commission?” Start asking “70% of what… and what’s included in my structure?” The good stylists can do the math. The question you ask is the whole interview.
