With classrooms filling up again, it’s the perfect time for a quick reminder on how we can all help prevent the spread of head lice.

A few simple habits can make a big difference:
• Don’t share hairbrushes, combs, hats, hoodies, or hair accessories.
• Avoid head-to-head contact during play and sports.
• Keep coats and backpacks separated whenever possible.
• Check your child’s hair regularly, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.
• If lice are found, treat them promptly and let the school know so other families can check too.

Remember, head lice don’t mean someone is dirty. They simply spread through close contact, and catching them early helps keep classrooms healthy.

Meet Bre Lightfoot, owner of The Velvet Root Salon in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Two years ago, Bre and her husband Brad packed up their lives—and their six animals—and made the 1,600-mile journey from California to Kansas City. After successfully owning and operating two salons in California, Bre spent time working in a local Kansas City salon before taking the leap to open The Velvet Root this spring. Securing The Velvet Root’s location at 📍462 SW Ward Road in Lee’s Summit, MO, was unique. From Bre's first call to Block & Company’s Garrett Cohoon to a fully executed lease, the entire transaction was completed in less than one week. This quick and smooth transaction was made possible by Garrett’s honesty, Bre’s drive, and the collaboration of everyone involved. That kind of turnaround only happens when everyone is committed to the same goal. Garrett represented both the landlord and assisted Bre throughout the leasing process, while the landlord, tenant, architect, and everyone involved worked together to make the deal a reality. For Bre, owning a business is about creating her own future while building a workplace where her team feels like family. Her advice for new business owners? This wasn’t just a color appointment. This was a full correction.

We took years of uneven, overly dark pigment and transformed it into a soft, dimensional brunette with warm caramel tones while keeping the integrity of the hair a top priority. Color corrections take patience, strategy, and a customized plan because healthy hair always comes first.
Color corrections are one of my favorite challenges because every head of hair tells a different story.
