Some people open businesses. Some people create programs. And then some people create something far more meaningful. They create memories, inspire generations, and leave a lasting impact on the communities around them. Mr. Drew and his family are some of those people.

With the announcement that Mr. Drew and His Animals will be closing the doors of their Education Center, I wanted to take a moment to recognize something that can sometimes get lost when we hear about a closing.

The closing of a building does not erase the impact of the person who brought it to life. If you've ever had the opportunity to meet Mr. Drew or Susan, you know that their passion isn't something they turn on when the cameras are rolling or when an audience is in front of them. It's who they are.

Their excitement is genuine. Their knowledge is incredible. And their love for the animals, the children, the families, and the communities they serve is something you simply cannot manufacture.

They are the kind of people who can turn curiosity into excitement, fear into understanding, and an ordinary afternoon into a memory someone carries for the rest of their life. But what I admire most about their family isn't just what they've built. It's the resilience behind it.

And Mr. Drew, your mission has never been limited to four walls. It's in every child who discovered a love for animals because of you. Every family that made a memory together. Every person who learned to appreciate a creature they once feared. Every community event you showed up for. And every smile you created simply by doing what you love.

That impact doesn't close when the doors do. To Mr. Drew and your entire family: THANK YOU.

Thank you for your resilience. Thank you for your sacrifices. Thank you for the countless ways you've made our community a better place. And most importantly, thank you for reminding us what genuine passion for your work looks like.

The Education Center may be closing, but the inspiration, the memories, and the impact will live on. Your family's impact is one of the greatest ones our community will remember. ❤️

Breast Cancer Awareness Month feels very different once you’ve actually heard the words “you have breast cancer.” What now means the most to me about awareness….actually paying attention to your body! Not listening to the peanut gallery or the internet!

Know what is normal for YOU. If something changes, ask about it. If something feels wrong, make the call. If you’re due for routine screening, make the appointment. Don’t avoid something because you’re busy, nervous or hoping it’ll just go away.

Not every form of taking care of yourself has to be deep. 😂 Sometimes you just want clean skin, a warm bed, good products and somebody else doing all the work for an hour. I fully support that decision. ✨ Online booking is always open. 💛

Okay, real question…what have you been putting off for yourself? The appointment you need to make, the thing you need to get checked, the dentist, therapy, moving your body, getting your hair done, taking an afternoon off, booking the facial, calling the friend, going to freaking bed earlier. 😂🫣

We are REALLY good at convincing ourselves we’ll take care of it later. This is your reminder that you’re allowed to make yourself a priority too.

I’ve noticed lately that I’m starting to look in mirrors more. I think I’m finally starting to embrace coming back to life after a very real “what the flip was that?” situation. 😅 Cancer has a way of stopping everything and stripping away pieces of who you were, whether you’re ready or not. Some things needed to go, some things were really sad to lose, but eventually I realized I wasn’t going back to any of those old versions of me. I’ve looked in the mirror at MANY versions of myself through this journey and I’ve never felt hate or anger toward my body. I actually feel sadness for what some of those old versions of me went through, even before cancer. And I feel incredibly grateful for the body that carried every single one of them and then endured everything it had to in order to heal me. At some point I stopped thinking about “fighting” cancer and started thinking about healing from it. Now it feels like my turn to return the care. To support this body after everything it did to keep me here.

I don’t want to look like the old me. I’m not trying to get her back. I’m getting to know the woman in the mirror now…and I really like her. 💛
