What Is A Project Ricochet Family Ambassador?

Today, we’re highlighting Adria “AD” Shouse of Well Groomed Barber Parlor, a valued participant in Project Ricochet’s Barbershop & Beauty Salon Initiative (BBSI) and a powerful example of why trusted community spaces matter.

Through her BBSI TOT reflections, AD reminds us that barbershops and beauty salons are much more than businesses. They are trusted spaces where people talk about what is happening in their lives, exchange information, find resources, and feel heard without judgment.

AD described health equity as “having equal resources and involvement for all of the people in our community.” She also identified real barriers; transportation, time away from work, childcare, and fear of being mistreated or not listened to, that can prevent people from accessing care.

These community insights are exactly what Project Ricochet’s Family Ambassador Training is designed to address.

What makes a Project Ricochet Family Ambassador?

Our 48-hour Family Ambassador pathway, integrates multiple training and workforce-development components into one community-centered role:

CHW Foundations + Bet On You! Gambling Prevention Navigator + Bet On You! Gambling Prevention Specialist + BBSI Train-the-Trainer (TOT) + QPR + Trauma-Informed Care + Adult Mental Health First Aid = Project Ricochet Family Ambassador.

Importantly, the Bet On You! training provides continuing education units (CEUs) through the International Problem Gambling and Gaming Certification Organization (IPGGC) and is aligned with the competencies and professional development pathway for the International Gambling Prevention Specialist (IGPS) certification.

This means Family Ambassadors are not simply receiving general community outreach training. They are building a layered foundation in community health, gambling-harm prevention, behavioral-health awareness, suicide-prevention response, trauma-informed practice, trusted-space engagement, resource navigation, and warm handoffs; while maintaining clear nonclinical boundaries.

AD captured the spirit of the model beautifully: Listen, educate, help people understand their options, provide avenues they can trust, and follow up.

That is the heart of the Project Ricochet Family Ambassador model: Building community capacity by equipping trusted people with practical tools, recognized training, and pathways for continued professional development.
