My client’s biggest concern wasn’t warmth… it was warmth that looked accidental.

She wanted caramel, toffee and brown sugar tones, but on her hair type, those shades can quickly lose their luxury if they aren’t placed and toned intentionally.

My goal was to create noticeable dimension with a soft halo of brightness around the face while keeping depth everywhere else it mattered.

Intentional Brunette 🤎

Utilizing freehand balayage allowed me to bring this brunette back to life without making her feel overly blonde.

Freehand painting creates a softer, more organic result than traditional foiling, making it one of my favorite techniques for adding dimension, movement, and brightness while maintaining richness throughout the hair.

Most stylists think the magic happens in the gloss.

For this mocha brunette, the result was created long before I mixed a single toner.

This client came in with virgin, fine-textured hair and one goal: brightness around the face without losing the richness of a brunette.

Instead of filling the entire head with highlights, I concentrated brightness where the eye naturally looks first—the money piece—and intentionally preserved depth everywhere else.

A few of the decisions that shaped this result:

▫️ Larger sections with selective weaving for soft, organic dimension
▫️ Heavy rooting behind the money piece to maintain depth and contrast
▫️ A back-to-front color melt application to naturally preserve brightness around the face

Because luxury color isn’t about creating brightness everywhere.

It’s about deciding exactly where brightness belongs.
