Erin, one of our Creative Directors, recently had the opportunity to spend time with students at Iowa School of Beauty Sioux City, sharing techniques, talking trends, and connecting with the next generation of stylists.

There’s something special about sharing knowledge and a passion for this industry with future beauty professionals. We’re proud to support cosmetology education, encourage up-and-coming stylists, and give back to an industry that has given us so much. ✂️❤️

Going through some old stuff today and deciding what stays and what finally needs to go…and came across these beauties. 😂
After close to 50 years in the hair business, I guess you accumulate a few memories — and apparently a few trophies!

Believe it or not, back in the day Doug actually competed in haircutting competitions…and even managed to win a few accolades along the way. Who knew? 😂✂️

And the City Looks by The Barbers bags may be even more special. City Looks was our family’s very first salon, part of The Barbers organization — the original parent company of what would eventually become Cost Cutters.

When we say this has always been a family business, we really mean it. Jess and Rich literally grew up in the salon business — spending plenty of time around the salons, the people and all that came with being part of a family business. They’ve seen it from just about every angle, from growing up around it to helping lead it today.

There probably aren’t too many family-owned salon businesses that can say the ownership once stood behind the chair and competed in haircutting contests, while the next generation grew up right alongside the business.

Anyway, before these “priceless family heirlooms” 😂 find their way to wherever old trophies go, I thought I’d share a little Barnes family nostalgia.

Almost 50 years later, we’re still here — still family-owned, still in the hair business, and thankfully the hairstyles have changed. 😂✂️❤️
