A Lubbock gymnast is bringing home national recognition after winning a 2026 National Championship in Tulsa. KCBD reported that Vashynae Baucham, now 16, won the national title seven years after first earning a championship at age 9. The local athlete has been training for years with support from her family and coaches, and her next goals include the USA Gymnastics and Tumbling Elite Program. Stories like this show the amount of work happening in Lubbock gyms, practice spaces, and youth programs that often goes unnoticed until an athlete reaches a national stage. Baucham’s win also gives younger athletes in the area a local example of what long term training and family support can produce. For families across the 806, this is a reminder that major sports stories are not only happening at the college level. Some are being built by teenagers before school, after school, and on weekends.
