Five years ago today, I did one of the scariest things I’ve ever done.
I walked out of salon job of 3 years for the last time, got in my car, and completely broke down. I remember thinking, “I can still turn around. I can go ask for my job back.” I was terrified. Starting my own business felt like jumping without knowing if anything would catch me.
But I took the leap anyway…
If I could go back, I’d hug that scared version of myself and tell her, “Just wait. It’s all going to be worth it.”
These last five years have stretched me in every way. There have been moments of doubt, hard lessons, long days, and times I questioned everything. But they’ve also brought some of the most rewarding moments of my life.
TAOH Studio started with a dream that felt way bigger than me.
Today, it’s a salon filled with incredibly talented women who love curls just as much as I do. Every chair is full. Every stylist pours her heart into the people who sit in front of her. Watching this team become what it is today has been one of my greatest accomplishments. Not because we built a salon, but because we built a place where people feel seen, understood, and confident in the hair they were born with.
Yesterday, we crossed a milestone that honestly left me speechless. Over 2,000 curly haired clients have sat in our chairs. It’s thousands of conversations, transformations, hugs, laughs, and the privilege of helping someone finally see the beauty in the hair they were born with!

You didn’t just book an appointment. You believed in us. You supported a dream that started with one scared hairstylist sitting in her car wondering if she had just made the biggest mistake of her life.
And to my team…thank you for believing in this vision and caring for our clients the way you do. I couldn’t do this without you!

For most curl types, products work best on soaking wet or very damp hair. The extra water helps distribute products evenly, encourages curl clumps, and reduces frizz.
