"If I run out of my estradiol patch and I check all of the local pharmacies and no one has it, then it's fine to just go ahead and stop my hormones..."

❌ MYTH!

Abruptly stopping estrogen therapy is NOT something I recommend without first speaking to your prescribing provider!

With the ongoing challenges of estradiol patch availability, I want women to understand why maintaining continuity of their prescribed hormone therapy matters.

This may seem obvious, but if the estradiol patch is stopped, all of the symptoms that were improving on the patch will most likely return rapidly which can affect quality of life.

Also, since we know systemic estrogen is so beneficial for our bone health, prolonged discontinuation will result in loss of the protective benefit.

Instead of stopping your hormones, talk to your provider about switching to alternative options at least until the patch is back in stock!

A pharmacy shortage should not automatically become an interruption in your medical care!

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and today’s Myth Monday is something I feel very strongly about as a physician: separating breast cancer screening facts from fear.

There is a lot of misinformation surrounding mammograms - especially on social media. But when it comes to your health, recommendations should be based on evidence, not fear.

Mammography remains the gold standard for breast cancer screening. Other imaging modalities can be valuable in certain situations, but they do not routinely replace a screening mammogram.

Why does this matter?

Because early detection can change outcomes and save lives.

So today, we’re breaking down some of the most common mammogram myths - what’s true, what’s not, and what women need to know to make informed decisions about their breast health. 💕

"If I’ve had a hysterectomy, I can’t benefit from systemic progesterone..."

MYTH! 🚫

If you no longer have a uterus, progesterone is not required for uterine protection when using estrogen therapy - but that doesn’t necessarily mean it has no role.

Micronized progesterone (Prometrium®) is bioidentical progesterone, and for some women, it's sedating and calming effects may be helpful for sleep and mood stabilization, particularly during the perimenopause transition into menopause.

So, while progesterone isn’t automatically needed after a hysterectomy, there may be individualized reasons to consider it as part of your menopause treatment plan.

As always, menopause care isn’t one-size-fits-all. 💕
