When it comes to embracing the gray, it's all about making people wonder: Is she graying, is she highlighted, or is that her natural?

To pull off this illusion, your highlight tones have to change as your skin changes. For my own warm skin, golden blonde used to give me a great glow. But now that my skin is lighter and my natural white hair is coming in, gold just won't blend with the silver/white.

The fix? Toning both the blonde and the gray to a beautiful, neutral beige. It perfectly evens everything out and creates a seamless, deceiving color palette.

You don't always need to go darker or add more highlights to refresh your look—sometimes, a simple toner is the exact magic wand you need to blend it all together.

As an avid reader, I easily go through at least two books a week—one in print and one on audio. But a line in my current read stopped me dead in my tracks.

The author was doing a deep dive into a character and asked a piercing question:
"Do you want to be the best in your business and be miserable? Or be mediocre and happy?"

It instantly took me back 20 years.

Back then, I thought I had it all. I was independent, owned my own condo, was a single mom successfully providing for my son, and drove my dream car. Sounds perfect, right?

But behind the scenes, I was drowning in stress. I never felt like I was enough. I was constantly agonizing over every metric: Do I look the part? Am I hitting the numbers I need? Did I sell enough retail this week? Did every single client rebook?

Then, life changed drastically. Marriage, triplets, and a hard pivot into survival mode.

But that chaotic shift gave me a gift: the perspective to look at the immense pressure I was putting on myself to be "the best" by everyone else's standards. I started wondering... What if I did it my way? What if I only focused on the parts of my career that I actually love, and built a world where only my clients' expectations mattered?

So, I did.

I love—and always have loved—doing hair for middle-aged and mature women. I love the art of covering and blending gray hair. I love precision haircuts, and that exact, magical moment a client looks in the mirror and truly feels beautiful.

To the hustle-culture crowd, prioritizing peace and a niche clientele might look "mediocre." But to me? It’s an incredible, fulfilling career.

I chose happiness over burnout.

What an incredible weekend supporting the Marion Police Department! Jake and I had the best time participating in the K9 for 5K to help welcome their newest (and fluffiest) recruit. 🐾

This little pup is joining the force as an emotional support dog, providing comfort and care on-site during difficult situations. It’s so moving to know that this little guy will be there to help neighbors navigate through trauma when they need it most.
