Brow Madam

I had to close my studio for two months so I could come back to Thailand and take care of my dad full-time. ❤️

I know I’ve had to move a lot of appointments around, and I truly appreciate how understanding everyone has been. I just wanted to share a little bit of what life has looked like for me here and why I needed to step away from work for a while.

Today was actually a good day.

Dad is doing a little better. He was able to sit up, his voice is clearer, and he’s smiling again.

I sang karaoke for him and asked, “Was that good?”
He said, “Yeah,” and gave me a little smile. 😆

One of his friends called too, and for the first time since he got sick about a month ago, Dad was actually able to talk on the phone.

It’s rainy season here right now, so the water is rising and flooding the rice fields around us. Dad suddenly told me he wants to go fishing. 😂 I told him, “Okay, but you have to get up and walk first. Then I’ll take you.”

His liver and kidney numbers have improved a little bit. Nothing dramatic, but at this point, even a little improvement makes me happy.

He’s not throwing up nearly as much anymore, but he still has very thick mucus that gets stuck in his mouth and throat, so I have to keep cleaning it out with gauze swabs. His mouth and tongue also get extremely dry from being sick and from all the medications.

Here in Thailand, the nurses are incredibly busy, and there simply aren’t enough of them for the number of patients they have to take care of. Because of that, family members or caregivers often help with a lot of the day-to-day care—changing diapers, cleaning the patient, feeding them, giving medications, and helping with sponge baths.

The doctors and nurses still handle the medical side, like injections, checking blood pressure and vital signs, drawing blood, and examining him regularly. But a lot of the care in between is done by the family.

So when I say I’ve basically become my dad’s private nurse, I’m really not exaggerating. 😅❤️

Nighttime, though, is a whole different story.

After his bedtime medications, he sometimes gets confused and wants to talk all night instead of sleeping. Sometimes he talks to himself, and every once in a while he points somewhere in the room and tells me someone came to visit him.

Apparently Dad has a whole group of new friends stopping by every night… friends the rest of us can’t see. 😂

I asked ChatGPT about it, and it said confusion or seeing things like this can sometimes be related to medications, illness, lack of sleep, or delirium.

Thank goodness it told me that instead of telling me Dad was actually seeing ghosts, because I’d be paranoid all night. 😆

Especially because our room is at the very end of the hallway… and the building right next to us has the room where they keep the bodies after someone passes away.

And some nights, the light over there keeps flickering on and off.

I still don’t understand why they even leave that light on. 😭😂

And of course… tonight is the dark moon. 🐈‍⬛⚫

So here’s hoping for another peaceful night.

This is why I needed to step away from the studio for a little while. Right now, my dad needs me here, and I’m just grateful to see him getting a little stronger, one day at a time.
